I tried removing my guide rod from my spring in my P229 but it seemed stuck. I didnt want to try to force it too much because I didnt want to distort my spring. Anyone else have this problem? What did you do about it?

Removing Guide Rod

Is it a factory guide rod? Usually you can push forward (towards the muzzle) and lift, it'll come right out under spring tension.

Oh! In that case, pull HARD! You can soak it in CLP wrap your palm around the length of the spring then pull. SIG's factory springs taper smaller in diameter towards the guide rod end.Comment

you can also try unscrewing it.
the twisted wire recoil springs in Sig are pretty tough and it does take some force to get them off...sometimes it's just easier to clean and lube them together. but don't go by me experience, i'm from the school of dip, swish, wipe off, spray on lube and air hose (or flick) it off...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

This is BM's standard fix to everything in his life..
As everyone's been saying, pick a direction and spin it.. If you go the wrong direction it'll tighten, if you go the other way, it'll spin off.. Just remember when you put it back, it needs to go the same way- taper end first.Aloha snackbar!Comment

I have the same issue with my 226. I got it new and even though I've put a couple hundred rounds through it, the spring is SUPER stiff. I just pull hard as well. I may try the unscrew method now that I've read about it.Mag Lite (3 cell w/LED)
