    Sig P226 P229 E2 Enhanced

Anybody know if the new Sig P226 or P229 Enhanced pistols will be CA legal? Always wanted one but didn't like the feel of it and the new one looks like it just might fit me well.

i would guess it would depend on if Sig decides to submit one for testing.

you do realise it's only a difference of new grip panels and mainspring assembly which were introduced?

They should be able to get on the approved list, via the exemption [CP 12131.5] Glock used to get the SF & RTF2 Glocks listed.

      Penal Code 12131.5
      (a) A firearm shall be deemed to satisfy the requirements of subdivision (a) of Section 12131 if another firearm made by the same manufacturer is already listed and the unlisted firearm differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the following features:
      (1) Finish, including, but not limited to, bluing, chrome-plating, oiling, or engraving.
      (2) The material from which the grips are made.
      (3) The shape or texture of the grips, so long as the difference in grip shape or texture does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
      (4) Any other purely cosmetic feature that does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
      (b) Any manufacturer seeking to have a firearm listed under this section shall provide to the Department of Justice all of the following:
      (1) The model designation of the listed firearm.
      (2) The model designation of each firearm that the manufacturer seeks to have listed under this section.
      (3) A statement, under oath, that each unlisted firearm for which listing is sought differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the ways identified in subdivision (a) and is in all other respects identical to the listed firearm.
      (c) The department may, in its discretion and at any time, require a manufacturer to provide to the department any model for which listing is sought under this section, to determine whether the model complies with the requirements of this section.

and if not, do what it sounds like is possible. Get a rostered 226, buy the grip panel and mainspring housing. Question is what's the availability, and pricing....

I just seacrhed this and has anyone confirmed that the MSH and grips can be simply switched out with a currently rostered CA 226?

It also comes standard with SRT. Good or bad depending on your preference.

there was a thread over on Sigforum from someone who bought one.

BTW: it isn't the MSH, it is the assembly

That's not entirely true. The 229 has a few more changes:
                  • Holds 15 rounds in 9mm (compare to 13 rounds in the traditional P229) moot point for CA, but still a difference.
                  • P226-style slide grip serrations (not the raised half-serrations of a traditional 229)

Nothing to get too excited over, but differences nonetheless.

That does raise interesting questions about the magazines though. I saw on nutnfancy's SHOT show video at the Sig booth that both of the E2 pistols, P226 and P229, would use a common magazine. However, they didn't clearly mention what that meant about whether those magazines work in traditional P226 or P229.

I think it'd be pretty cool to get a P229 that could use my many P226 mags without them sticking out the bottom. Does anybody know the deal with the new mags?

Edit: I just re-watched the relevant portion of the Nutnfancy video. I misheard before. The guy said that the P226 E2 uses that standard P226 magazine, but the P229 E2 uses a new magazine, but he didn't say that the two E2s use the same magazine. So much for that idea, I guess...

                      that's true

i was addressing his concern that he didn't like the "feel" of the regular 226.

i really like the look of the full height slide serrations, too bad they didn't add the flat on top of the slide too

There is a website in Germany selling them. 106 bucks. Shipping is a pain though, 93 bucks for export fees.

Maybe a group buy? Anyone want to run with this? I know a member on a Glock forum bought one (he lives in Germany) and successfully installed on a standard p226. All the speculation about frame changes are not true. Older guns will need a new mainspring though, which the website mentions.
                          Here is the link:

Sounds very tempting. Who knows when these will be in CA? And the word I hear is that the kit may be a year or more out, if ever. Remember the SRT kits? They stopped selling those after they figured out they made more by selling the guns instead of allowing upgrades.

                          Group Buy?

Ca Compliancy for Sig P229/229 E2

I talked to a rep at Sig and also talked to the Ca Dpt. of Justice, Bureau of Firearms.

From what I was told, the E2 will never be Ca Compliant due to the SRT trigger.
