My S&W .357

One of my favorites. My Dad always bought a gun when each one of us were born as a gift to give later. Since I was born in 57 my Dad figured that this was a good choice.

If anyone can offer any info on the serial number info that would be cool. I do know it is a pre model number designation and a 5 screw frame short cylinder.

It is in NIB condition and I have both the regular grips as well as the target ones and the original box. Happy Saturday!

That's beautiful piece. Not much to tell you, but he serial number indicates it was made between '56 and '57.

It actually is a pre model number per my Dad. I understand this was the last one before they started with the "model" designations. It truly is a beautiful gun and has a ton of value to me but not in a monetary sense.

Smith & Wesson did begin model designation in 1957, so yours is one of the last pre model marked guns.

With the box and docs it is worth a bit to a collector as it is, worth more to you for sentiment I'm sure.

My Serial number was S 13659_
Smith responded DOM near end of 1956

If you ever want to sell it keep me in mind
Mine was stolen years ago in a home burglary from a bolted down pistol safe with a motion sensor alarm

Yes I do have the box. Haven't looked at it in many years but if I remember correctly it was gold with blue lettering

Wow that really sucks. It is unlikely I will ever sell unless something really unforeseen happens I won't part with it since the sentimental value for me is so high.

Congrats on a very nice example of a five screw, early 1956 pre model 27.

Just so you'll know, guns like yours when they're NIB and complete with the original box, papers, tools, grips, etc. command a premium price. The target diamond stocks shown in the pic are an added bonus. Together, easily in the $1500 to $2000 range.

I know it came from your dad so it will never be for sale. Also please don't ever shoot it. It will only go up in value. It deserves to be passed on to family.
