    New Resident Form?

A friend has lived in CA for 10 years but just got his handgun back from an out of state family member who was holding it for him. He was/is the legal owner of the gun and the gun is on the CA approved list.

Does he do the "NEW RESIDENT HANDGUN OWNERSHIP REPORT" even though he's lived here for many years? Or is there a different form for him?

    Thanks.

Yes, all he has to do is send in the form and his $19. The time starts when the gun enters the State not necessarily the resident.

Since I know your(or someones else's) next question will be, "Won't he get in trouble for sending it in late".

The law clearly states that a person cannot get in trouble for sending in the form after the 60 days, if the only way the State becomes aware of the gun being registered late is via the owner registering it.
I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

      and

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

If it was his gun and just being held out of state, I would not do anything. No reason to file any paperwork with the state.
