    Kimber Pro Carry vs. Ultra Carry

    I have narrowed my next .45 to be either of these weapons. Anyone have experience with them both? I want to use as a CCW. I know the Ultra is smaller and likely more comfortable to carry, but Pro is bigger.... and I have pretty big hands.

    Anybody want to weigh in on this?

    I absolutely love my pro cdp. It's a little big, but I'm a lot big so it works

      If you're a big guy, go for the pro. I used to carry the pro and I'm nowhere near a "big" guy. The ultra would probably be tiny on you.

        smaller is not always better...
        I have an UC II...
        I have a custom built commander...
        I have a springer loaded 45 and a 9mm...
        I carry a steel frame govt. Volkmann custom off duty... the UC kimber sits in the safe ... has for years....the smaller is cute but bigger is steadier and I carry what I shoot well and the extra barrel length helps with velocity and sight radius and it ain't the barrel that is hard to conceal... it's the frame... which is why the short frame with commander barrel/slide guns are so popular...
        I carry the gun cause I might have to fight with it... not because it's comfortable...

          smaller is not always better...
          I have a Glock 22. I really like it for shooting... in fact... even without the crimson trace I have for it, I can shoot crazy accurate with it. I really feel the larger frame helps with that.

          Thanks for all the great input!

            I have the Pro Carry II. Great, but heavy! Especially with Wilson Combat 10 rounders. Other than that once broken in it's a great gun.

              Pro vote

              I have both sizes, 4 inch and 3 inch barrel, and the 4 inch Pro size is easier to shoot. The longer grip, extra sighting radius and better weight distribution help accuracy. You need just the right holster and cant angle to conceal it well, however, or the end of the grip will stick out and print when you bend forward.

                Miltiades..... I always love a reply with a beautiful picture!!! I am really glad to know you have both and still choose the Pro..... it is what I have been leaning towards, but then I always have an irk that brings me back to Ultra. All of this great feedback has me feeling more comfortable with the Pro now. Thanks again everyone!

                  I have fairly large hands and have no problems with my Ultra Carry II being too small. In fact I think the grip is the same size as the Pro and the only difference in size is barrel/slide length. And even though it only has a 3" barrel, it's impressively accurate. I have absolutely no regrets with going with the Ultra.

                    I have a UC II with night sights and I love it. Yes, the grip is a little smaller, but that can be remedied. I like to use wilson combat or CM powermags with the plastic, slightly extended base plates. These base plates add about 1/3" to the grip, right where my pinky rests, and makes the gun more comfortable than the factory Kimber mag. I also have very large hands.

                    I can't really recommend one over the other, as I don't have experience with the pro, but the UC II is a great gun.

                      I believe you mean "the grip is a little shorter" not smaller so hand size should not matter that much.
                      I have a set of CDP II, full size to 3". My primary permited carry is the Pro in IWB or Galco shoulder holster. I am 5-7 and 155lbs. I feel very comfortable with it. In my renewal I will replace my Kahr PM9 with my Ultra as the Kahr is a little too small for my taste.
                      There is not much difference between the full size and the Pro, but there is in the Ultra in the way of recoil, but very manageable. The Ultra is not recommended to limpwrister.

                        Shorter = smaller.
                        Taller = bigger.
                        Thinner = smaller.
                        Fatter = bigger.

                        Thanks for clarifying, but smaller was definitely an appropriate word. That being said yes, the manner in which it is smaller happens to be a direct result of the grip being shorter.

                          What kind of clothes do you usually wear? I have a pro carry and love it! I've shot an UC a few times and liked it, but I'd probably go with the pro if you're a bigger guy.

                            If you are asking me, if I carry the Pro in IWB or shoulder holster, minimum, untucked loose shirt(one size larger better) over shirt so the canted grip do not contact my skin will conceal it fine.

                              6 ft 220lbs. I have a few different biz, in my nutrition shop I try to keep it to jogging pants and t-shirts. When on financial services appts, shirt, tie, slacks. When on a video shoot... this is my most flexible time for what I wear, and actually the reason why I want to have a good carry weapon to begin with. Short and T'shirts are the best, but a good conceal vest would do the trick. T-shirt untucked with IWB or paddle perhaps. I have a glock 22 now that I usually wear with a cross breed IWB. I love the gun, but the grip sticks me in the side when I sit and is easy to spot if I have to bend down.
