glock 26 or 27 or springfield xd sub compact

I shot both the 26 and 27 at a gun range before deciding that i didn't want any of them. Unless you get the grip extension, handling it feels awkward. The recoil on the 27 makes for harder followup shots. If i was forced to get one, I would probably lean toward the 26 just because of that.

I would recommend trying them out before you commit.

I have a 27 and for me it is the perfect balance of size, power, and utility. I have had it since 2000 and haven't found anything that I like better for CCW yet. It has never had a failure ever and eats all ammo. Lots of small guns won't eat anything but round nose reliably IMO. The 26 will be easier to master and will cost less to shoot.

I'm most comfortable with my G22 because fits in the 'small' of my not-small back.

The main differences between the 26/27 and XD are

A. the grip angle, the XD's is similar to a 1911 angle, the Glock is more vertical

B. Glock has the safety integrated in the trigger so you have to have your finger or object completely across the front of the trigger; XD has an additional button on the back so you have to have your hand on the grip, it's a nice feature.

I wanted an XD but I ended up finding a smokin deal on a factory refurb'd G22. Rent each one and see which one you like better, I don't think either one is better than the other.

So the 26 9mm is plenty of take down or should I stay will the 27 40 the 26/27 fit real nice in my hands with extra on magazine.

I'd prefer to hit my target with a 9mm than miss with a .40 because of the recoil in such a small pistol. I have an HK USP Compact in .40 and it kicks plenty even with the very heavy slide, I can't see being able to reliably make follow ups on the 27 unless you have gorilla arms and impeccable technique.
I'm thinking of a 26 as a bug out bag pistol since it takes up no room and ammo is easy to find or scrounge. Definitely get the little grip extension though.

The XD grip angle is the more vertical of the two, where the Glock is more slanted.

Not trying to get down on you, but it's a feel good feature that isn't needed and one more thing that can go wrong.

Agreed. Renting is the only way. I was dead set on an XD9 until I shot a G19.

I'm actually looking at both pistols right now. I am leaning towards the g26 for a couple reasons. One, is that it is just a bit smaller than the Xdsc. The other, is that if we ever get rid of high cap mag laws here in CA, the g26 can accept g19 and g33 mags, that's right, 33 rounders! The final reason, is that I already own an XD .45 and I like variety, so I want a glock 9mm.

You are correct, my bad, I got the angles mixed up and typed it out too quickly...I'm a bit overwhelmed with trying to find volunteers for a Calguns booth at a 100,000 attendant 3 day Expo next week!

I heard the same thing about the XD, that the safety is theoretically one more thing to go wrong but it seems to be a well designed feature, I have yet to hear of anyone having trouble with that. I think if the price was the same on a Glock/XD, I would pick the XD because the grip angle fits my hand better. I don't have a single complaint about my Glock, though.

You really can't go wrong with any of those choices. I personally carry a G27. For an average sized male with shooting experience, it is not too much to handle at all. I can shoot it as quickly and accurately as any of my full size pistols. With the +1 pinky extention, it is a phenomenal pistol. It's the only "small" gun that I fell 100% confident with. Whatever you go with just practice, practice, practice and you will be very happy.
