P226 feed issues

Hmm. I have an older p226 that will feed anything and everything. Makes me wonder if I should rethink trying to sell it. Reports on new sigs seem less than encouraging.

Me too. I have an older "W.Germany" P226 with the stamped steel frame. It was a police trade-in, has a bit of rattle in the slide, but it is reliably feeds anything.

I just added a brand new P226, and I have to report the same type of break-in period that other people mention, including a couple of FTF and FTE in the first couple of boxes of ammo. By that start of the third box, the slide would still not lock back after the last shot! (And I'd scrubbed the heck out of it with CLP and left it pretty wet before the first trip to the range). Finally the range officers loaned me an oiler. I added some more to the rails, and it finally started to behave correctly.

The gun functioned flawlessly on the second trip to the range yesterday.

I guess that SIGs come with a break-in period nowadays...

When I first got my 226.

I had an similar issues. I was having some FTE's, and not locking back after the last round been fired..

It took a couple hundred rounds to break her in.

How many rounds have you shot out of it? which ammo are you using?

Good idea.. the gun was bought new from a local gun shop. I have only used the factory mags supplied with the gun and Winchester ball ammo. On the other hand my TRP is a tack driver that will eat anything.. sometimes simpler is better IMO.

Since new Sigs are only sold with one magazine could you please describe the magazines that your 226 came with. If they do not say Sig Sauer, or Mec-Gar on them then throw them away. If your 226 is properly lubed and oiled the thing should function like a Singer sewing machine.

^^not entirely true. SIG only did that a few months last year and after the backlash, went back to two mags.

Wow - I'm glad I made the decision to recently drop a deposit on a Police Trade-in Sig P228. It's already broken in.

I'm curious to see how this turns out. If it's as simple as some lube to cure this problem. There is a video posted on the Sig website that says this about how much lubrication is enough "if you touch the lubricated area with a tip of your finger and leave a finger print - that's just right"
