Beretta px4 storm

I'm about to get my first handgun and its either going to be the Springfield XD .40 or Beretta PX4 Storm .40 and i'm leaning more towards the Beretta. For the people who has one, what do you guys think about it? any problems?

Don't get a handgun without ideally shooting it first or at the very least holding it. What matters is whether it fits *your* hand. I'd get the XD personally because the PX4 just never felt right to me (axis is too high). Especially for a new shooter.

If this is your first handgun ever, I'd stick to a 9mm. It is cheaper so can practice a lot more and recoil is more manageable for a rookie.

Regardless of what you get, don't worry about it too much because as you get used to shooting handguns, you will realize which guns fit you best and eventually you will end up with the ones that you like to shoot most.

I have the PX4 in 9mm for my house gun. I also have an XD9 and XD45 Tacticals. The reason the PX4 is my HD is because of the double action and safety. The better half also shoots it and likes it. The XD's are considered single actions. I shoot the XD 9 in IDPA, have put over 7000 rounds down the barrel and no problems. Got the XD 45 for SHTF and the wife will use the PX4. Both are good pistols.

I've shot a XD already which my buddy has but not the Beretta. I have held the beretta at my local gun shop and it fits me pretty good and feels nice to me

The Px4 in .40 was my first gun. Apart from a gritty trigger and a really heavy slide, I don't have any complaints.

Going back, knowing what I know now, I probably would have chosen a revolver or a 1911 in .45. The PX4 seems pretty susceptible to limp wristing and will fail to feed if you:re not absolutely rock solid. With the .40 S&W round a new handgunner will probably limp wrist a bit before figuring things out.

The PX4 is my go-to gun and I carry it at home for HD. It's also the hand gun I am the most accurate. The .40 is an awesome round from all I've read for home defense.

While not as bad as it used to be, .40 has the advantage of being less common than 9mm and .45 so you're more likely to see it on store shelves.

I have the PX4 in 9mm and love. But when comparing it to a very nice gun like the XD, I think the deciding factors should be 1. how it feels in your hand / how you shoot it, and 2. How you feel about the Beretta's Double/Single trigger vs the Springfields Double Action only trigger. My preference has always been towards the Double / Single Beretta style trigger but you find strong arguments either way. So again the decision should be based on which one you shoot best. I think there are plenty of happy owners of either of those fine guns. Good luck making a decision.

I have both a 9 MM and 40 caliber PX4 storm full size.

I would recommend against getting one. I would sell mine off...but the resell value is very poor. They run about $500 new, but you cannot get but about $350 for one when you decide that it just isn't for you.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the first gun enough to buy another. Now that I have a lot more pistols then I need and am considering thinning the herd, I find myself thinking that the PX4 pistols would go first. In fact they would be gone already if I could sell them for more than 70% of what I paid for them.

The PX4 series has limited factory customer support, limited aftermarket support. Add to that, I do not shoot Berettas as well as I shoot Sig Sauers, CZ 75's, 1911's, Walther P99's.

Just my opinion though.

If you can afford it go Sig 226/229 or HK USP/USP Compact they are fantastic guns, I was going to buy a P4x for my wife until we shot it and it just didn't impress. The Sigs and HKs are more money but you really get bang for the extra buck. If money is an issue go Glock, the G19 is a really great 9mm pistol, I prefer the DA/SA and smoother feel of the Sig and HK but there is a reason so many agencies choose Glock. My personal choice was a HK USP compact in .40 S&W, the wife shoots a 9mm Sig 226.

The Springfield XD is considered a single action trigger. Different than the Glock or M&P.

I have tested the PX4 in 45 Auto at the Beretta USA in MD when it was still a prototype. It was a good shooting pistol. I don't know how it is now as a production gun.
