    Buying a subcompact for CCW

    My Glock 26 was stolen, I replaced it with a Glock 19. I have no desire in buying another Glock 26. I have however been eying out these two guns for a while;

Walther P99 Compact (what is the difference between QA and AS?)
    HK P2000SK

I am not really interested in any of the mini 1911's, I prefer 9mm in subcompacts (faster follow up shots, higher capacity)

I have never seen in person the new Walther PPS, but I prefer a subcompact (shorter barrel) due to my body type.

What are your thoughts on these pistols? Reliable enough for defense? Does anyone have any suggestions on others that I might be interested in? I own a P7M8 but I don't intend on carrying that due to the fact that is so expensive. If I could pick up a cheap used German P7 I would use that for CCW any day of the week.

The P2000SK is a really fine gun! The decocker on it is a little strange though. It's a little button on the rear of the gun next to the hammer

Why don't you like CCW'ing your Glock 19? Too big or do you just not like Glocks?

I plan on CCW'ing my G-19 over my other firearms because it's small but not too small, I can shot good with it, and it's cheap so I don't care if it wears or gets wet/dropped etc. Good work horse gun.

p99 is an excellent gun. the a/s is anti stress. it was a revision done to the gun to make the trigger group more durable. it is a sa/da trigger with decock. the q/a is quick action. it is the latest trigger group in the series. its dao. i have a a/s 99 full frame in .40. it is a flawless gun. and the lack of controls on the side make it perfect for a fast draw. just like a glock. but it has the decock on the top rear of the slide. if you get the 99 make sure to get the a/s model. then you can carry with one in the chamber decocked. as soon as you pull the trigger it goes into a short crisp sa mode. much better than the glock trigger. and it will double strike if the round fails.

the hk is just a little too bulky for me.

A little too small, and If I were to go for the larger ones, they are a lot like Glocks only with out the trust I put behind Glocks.

I think that is a great place for a decocker, that's what drew me to the gun in the first place actually.

I am most definitely looking for a hammer on this pistol, so I am assuming I am looking at the AS with SA/DA. I have handled one a few years ago, love the look, grip, and I hear the 9mm shoots pretty great. I am a big fan of the placement of the decocker on the slide (I hope I am remembering correctly), the HK style mag release, and the styling is just really bad a**! I have a concern with reliability with Walther (now S&W) did this firearm change quality wise when S&W took over? Should I be looking for a used one? I am leaning really far to the P99c.

Look at the HK P2000sk with the light LEM trigger. About 4.5# trigger pull, no external safety lever. Every trigger pull is identical as you carry with one in the pipe. Mine (.40 cal) is stone reliable, very safe to handle and accurate beyond what I ever expected from a sub-compact. In a Crossbreed Supertuck or Ctac Mtac IWB, it's an excellent package.

And I will share with you guys my reasoning for a subcompact - I am not one to brag, but I have a very large penis (I am really not joking around) and on top of that, I am a hairy man. I have found the most comfortable CCW position on my waste line is 1-2 'o clock, right between my genitalia and my pelvis bone. With my body type I can easily conceal a G26 and wear a tight fitted dress shirt. The longer barrel guys at that position tend to rub on the base of my penis, causing a little irritation (I like my guns to sit low on my waste line). Hence when I much rather carry a sub compact instead of just a compact or I better start waxin' like a woman (sh*t, I already drive a Prius!). Please no stupid jokes about this matter, I am being serious, act mature. A lot of contact + hair + sensitive area = irritation.

                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-4XdPxYU9E - I just watched this video

The PPS and the G27 are almost identical in size. Is there something I am missing? Why isn't this listed as a subcompact?

i've owned the Walther P99c (i'd avoid the S&W version) and there is a certain cool factor to having a "Bond" gun...i think it's a little bulky for your intended use.

i've handled the H&K P2000SK at a couple of classes and can see why H&K used it as a basis for ergo upgrades in evolving the USP to the P30. i also like the placement of the de-cocker as it is handy to either hand. the P99 has an interesting de-cocker too, but looks like it was easier to activate with the left hand.

i can highly recommend the LE trade-in H&K P7, as it's a great buy as a surplus gun, if the weight of the steel frame doesn't bother you. i carried one as a duty and off-duty gun for several years. i found it very safe and accurate...i really liked that it has a full-sized 4" barrel in such a compact package.

i'm using a Kahr as my current carry, but i can understand your hesitation...it does take a while to get used to it's thinness

How do I get a non S&W P99c AS? Where would I find one, would I have to buy used?

I have the same feelings about the P2000SK

I have a P7M8 and love it, but I am not going to carry around a gun that's almost worth over $2000. Unless there's a sale on used P7's out there, I am out of luck!

Can anyone tell me whats up with the PPS, it looks like a sub-compact, has anyone seen it in person?

Kahr subcompacts feel like they are going to jump out of my hand, even the all alloy models Follow up shots are basically useless and they are quite pricey for what they are.

9mmepiphany, how do you like the Kahr? I'm thinking of getting a P45 or PM45. Thoughts?

                        thanx.

i have the CW9 and i like it a lot. the only change i had to make was to hold it a bit firmer than i do my Glock 19 or Beretta 96, otherwise it squirms in my hand a bit.

i used to shoot revolvers and had to relearn the longer DAO reset on the Kahr.

the trigger pull on mine is pretty light and very smooth, the gun has proven very accurate right out of the box. the other thing i had to remember is to use the slide stop to release the slide on a full magazine...they are very tight when new
