    Glock Parts Question

Can you buy ambi mag releases for the G19 and G26 or is it only available on certain models direct from Glock? If they are available, do you need special mags?

    Thanks

The only Glock models that have an ambi mag release are the 21SF and the new Gen4s.

Yes, the mags are different. The ambi equipped gun can only use "ambi" mags. While a "non-ambi" gun can use "ambi" mags.

As far as I know, Glock only sells parts to dealers and certified armorers.

I was at Fine Firearms in La Mesa yesterday and the manager there (a Glock armorer) pulled up an aftermarket ambidextrous mag release on the computer. I can’t remember the make, but it looked like it pushed in on the left side but it pushed down to release on the right side.

The one that he showed me was for a G35.

Glock is discontinuing the ambi mag release on all models due to problems with the mag catch/release system.

I have heard of an aftermarket ambi release for all glock models but do not know who makes it.

Of our left handed shooters that compete in IDPA events, they merely use their middle finger to release the mag and to be quite honest, it works better than their thumb.

I've tried it on my ambi G21 and it's amazing how much faster I am with my middle finger over my thumb releasing mags.

being a lefty I can vouch for that. I'm so used to using my middle finger I dont even think about it. And when I try using my right hand and my thumb it actually seems harder to me. So ambi mag-releases aren't that big of a selling point for me. Although the aftermarket one in the link posted earlier does look interesting, never seen one of those before.

The Gen4 Glocks do not use the ambi-magazine release, they use the newer reversable magazine release

Glock makes four types of pistols that use the ambi-magazine release. Only two of the four are imported into the USA.
              Glock 21SF + picatinny rail & ambi-mag release
              Glock 21Sf + glock rail & ambi-mag release
Glock 17MB (only available in the EU)
Glock 19MB (only available in the EU)

The ambi-magazine release is not very popular in the USA. So, Glock has decided to cease importation of the ambi-mag release Glocks into the USA and concentrate on the reversable magazine release system for the USA.

The Glock ambi-magazine release and the reversable magazine release are not compatible with Glocks with the standard magazine release. The internals are different and will not accept the parts.
