My grandfather just passed away and I was given his Luger from my grandmother. She dosent know where he got it just that he has had it for over 60 years and he brought it back from over seas after he got out of the navy. I don't know anything at all about these guns was wondering if I could get some help. I tried to post pics but I can't get it to work. I can email them to u if it will help, as I am hearing it can be dificult to id even with pics. The gun dosent have any date on it nor does it even say what caliber it is. All the parts on the gun all match. The top of the gun has a symbol I belive says dwm , all the parts of the gun have the # 92 on them. It has a symbol that looks like a N with a crown above it. On the underside of the barrel and the front of the gun under the barrel both read 4692 and under that # is a M. I don't know if that is enough info, but like I said I can email u pics but I'm new to cal guns so I don't know how to post them. Any info or even a helping hand in what direction to go in to find out about the gun will be greatly helpful. Thank u much

DWM is for Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. Lugers were made in 2 calibers. 7.65mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum. 4692 is the serial number and all but the smallest parts should have 92 on them. Someone can probably tell you where it was made and the date of manufacture. It would be much easier with photos. Photobucket.com is easy to use. Have you read the sticky thread on adding photos?

So I took the gun to my local gunshop. They wAnt me to leave the gun with them for a week and they want to charge me $60 to tell me more info. All he could tell me at the time was the #s place it at 1950 he thinks, but the symbols place it it at 1930. But that was just his guess. It's a 7.65mm and the barrel is just under 4 inches. It has a aftermarket clip so it's not of any help with the dating of the pistol. Please any help from the calgun community will be greatly appreciated.Comment

Do not give up $60 to have some one who does not know lugers appraise the gun. It was not made in the 1950. They quit making them in 1942. You have a commercial gun. If you send some pictures of the gun I will at least give you better info that the dealer. The serial numbers are reused by different markers and different years so you need a lot more info. close up of the markings and quality focus pics work the best. I will check my books and find out what you have.

Lugers are beautiful pistols, if you do not appreciate it much as a pistol(not as an heirloom) you will with time. They feel very different when you shoot them because of how the mechanism toggles. Cherish your heirloom bud.Screw the environment! The sooner we trash this place the sooner we will have the political will to explore space and conquer the known universe, spreading like locust we will plunder, crush new enemies, take their women and if we are lucky, we shall meet our fate on the battlefield.
