Ruger P95 - What are your thoughts?

I had one in Stainless and it was a great gun; not terribly sexy, but very reliable and plenty accurate.
I sold it to a friend and still shoot it when we get together, when I do it makes me wish I hadn't sold it. The only reason I sold it was that I used to inadvertantly hit the mag release button sometimes.
I'm sure it was me and not the gun, 'cuz it never happened to any of my friends when they would shoot it, but it's a little disconcerting to have your mag go "Thunk" onto the floor between shots. Embarrassing at the range, potentially deadly in a HD situation.
I wasn't crazy about the grip (I have small hands) but I put one of those Hogue rubber grip sleeves on it and it's fine.
For $299 you can't go wrong.Too many hobbies, Too little time.
Mind you, I'm 5'7", 180, with a visible Ab...Comment

My buddy has a P95 with the Stainless slide that he uses as his HD gun. Ive shot it and it was accurate and reliable. It also felt very similar to mine which is a P94.
As others have said, Rugers are not "dainty" guns, they are overbuilt, a bit heavy and the trigger takes its time to do its job, but you get used to it. It will also shoot any ammo you feed it. I have not had 1 failure in over 1k rounds including steel cased. It is not a sniper pistol, but it will hit what you point it at if you do your job right. I suggest snap caps and lots of dry fire practice. +1 on the Hogue grip, worth every penny.
At 25 feet, shooting fairly quick double taps it is accurate enough for HD and I know it will go bang 10 times. Not too shabby for $275

IMO the P95 is a good gun, built like a tank and very dependable. My buddy has one and it has never failed to fire. I personally don,t have one but he lets me shoot it occasionally. I do own a P94 9MM and have had no problems at all with it. Of course my opinion might be a little bias because I do like Rugers and have a small number of them.Thats a good price and you can,t go wrong with it. RedhemiComment

I have a P95 and I bought it several years ago from a guy who was just stationed at Camp Pendleton... He neglected to tell me that the extractor was bent and the recoil spring didnt have a retention pin on it anymore... It would NOT reliably chamber or extract. I took it recently to the Ruger Factory in Prescott while on a road trip and they fixed it for me in about 10 mins and gave me a new spring no charge and now the pistol runs like a top! I think I paid $200 for it and I am glad it works perfectly now.I pledge allegiance to the Eagle with the MP5 of the United Police States of America, and to the fallen Republic which once stood, the New World Order under our new overlords, divided, with tyranny and injustice for all.

Get the stainless. My wife says "it's pretty".The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

I've had my P95 for a year and a half, probably 500 rounds through it. It is heavy but that helps make it more accurate, IMHO. It is my wife's favorite gun. The only issue I have had with it was re-assembling it the first time after cleaning it, you must really pay attention to the Dis-Assmebly and Re-Assembly instructions other wise it will not cycle properly. Once I firgured that out I have had no other issues and have run various brands of ammo, cheap bulk stuff to quality defense rounds, through it flawlessly.
It is big for carrying if your thinking of possibly getting a CCW but bulky winter clothing will work okay. Warmer weather would make it harder to conceal. It's a good thing we don't get all the government we pay for!

I spent some time on a co-workers recent vintage P95. It's not one of my Sigs, but it was solid, ran perfect once he broke it in and I kind of liked it. For a basic defensive tool for someone on a budget, its a good choice.-- Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun

I have a P 85 that I got in the 1980's that is still running like a champ! They do have horrible triggers though.Comment

My first pistol was a P95DC in stainless. I bought it on a whim in 2001 after my cousin picked up a USP Compact 40. Great gun. The grip was a little thick for me, but it shot really well, never had any FTF, FTE, and I only shot range bought factory reloads through it.-Nick-Comment

I bought one from Turners yesterday. This will be my 3rd Ruger and I absolutely LOVE the other 2.
I am big fan of stainless, I have a P345 and a Sigma 40 both in stainless steel. I ended up getting the blued P95, it just looked right somehow. The blued (or black as it actually is) has more of a tactical look to it. There was just something not right about the way the stainless one looked.
