    moving to ca

i have tried to use the search and wasnt having much luck. some one was asking me a question. and i wasnt able to respond because i wasnt sure on how it works. the question was if some one lived out of state and was going to move to ca. how do they handle all of the guns that are not legal in this state. i said i can only speak for ar's and they should put a BB on the gun. then the person asked about the Taurus Judge. the Revolver that shoots 410 and 45 long colt. what does that person have to do?

Do them a favor and convince them not to move.

^^^^+1 I agree^^^^ I think the Judge is banned because of the 410, am I correct?

yes it is banned because of the 410 (shot gun under the legal length) even though it is a riffled barrel

I agree, if you don't have to then don't.

the judge is considered a SBS and an assault weapon due to revolving shotgun. AR are OK as long as they are off list and BB or featureless.

Not necessarily, if the AR is a listed AW (i.e., Colt AR-15, Bushmaster XM-15, etc.), if any of his guns are a listed AW (i.e., HK91, IMI Uzi, etc.), or a 50bmg rifle, or what CA considers is a SBS like the Taurus Judge, he can not bring them into CA. Likewise, he cannot bring any magazines or other feeding device (such as belts) with a capacity of greater than 10rnds. He can disassemble such mags and bring them in as parts, but they can not be reassembled while in the state. What he can bring in that is not ordinarily available to current residents are non-rostered handguns, as long as the handguns are not considered AW (is a semi-auto with a threaded barrel or magazine well outside the pistol grip). He has 60days after moving to CA to register these with the state. If his AR or any long gun or handgun is currently an CA AW but not listed, then he can convert it to be CA legal and bring it into the state (i.e., put a bullet button and 10rnd magazine onto a OLL AR or AK, put a non-threaded barrel on a USP Tactical.

one thing to tell him to do for sure is to buy as many off roster pistols as he can before coming here. We would love to ppt them into our hands with him making a little profit along the way. I'll take 2 XDMs and a KelTec PF9 please!

some people move here due to their jobs, not because they want to. But the majority of them are hooked on eating.

Most of the traffic is moving out of California.

By locking you up in prison if you bring those not legal guns into the state and get caught.

But seriously, his long guns he needs to verify they are not considered assault weapons in this state my both make/model and by "evil" features. If they are semi-auto start here: http://calnra.com/cgi-bin/flowchart.cgi

His revolver pistol is going to be a definite no no here. Any legal pistols just need to be registered within 60 days (someone stated 90 days above, but that isn't what the state says) http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/pubfaqs.php#24 Though Californians can't buy pistols not on the safe gun roster in the state, there is no restriction on importing them when moving here or by selling them through a private party transfer. In fact you will get top dollar for those hard to find pistols here. As stated above, it isn't a bad idea to stock up on a few desirable models not on the roster before moving here.

Can't import assembled mags with greater than 10 round capacity, though those mags can either be disassembled or converted permanently to 10 round capacity.

Shotguns and pistols can also be considered assault weapons depending on what he's got. Click the links toward the top of the forums for the other various assault weapon identification flowcharts to make sure everything is all good before bringing them into the state.

Its worth noting that there is no such thing as a rimfire assault weapon in the state, though you still have to have them meet minimum length requirements for a rifle to not be considered a short barrel rifle (26" over all length) and 10 round limits on new or imported box mags still apply. I believe there is an exception to the 10 round limit for tube fed rimfire mags, but don't quote me on that. If he has any of those do some searches.
