Sig 228 question?

Just brought home a used Sig 228. Is the end of this recoil spring factory? The pic is lousy, but, it looks like an allen head screw. Thanks for any help.

That's not factory either but Steve's guide rods are GTG!

The factory guide rod is just a rod - no screw of any kind. I purchased a service kit for the 228 direct from SIG years ago (contains all the springs and some other wear items), but that doesn't include the guide rod. I'm sure they will sell you one. Also, it looks like Brownells carries 'em for just a few bucks.

Yeah that's it. It's blue so it will match you slide. It's just a hollow piece of metal. Your screw equipped rod leads me to think it's a captive guide rod. The OEM unit is not. If the gun has a lot of ammo through it or you just want to do a service you can order the parts kit from SIG. I'd recommend the AGI SIG video on detailed disassembly. Or you can just buy a recoil spring as that wears out most often, and you will likely not want to re-use the spring from the captive rod if you are suspicious about it. SIG originally used coil wound recoil springs. Not sure if they still do that though.

ETA: The P228 is a great gun. I shot one and carried it for years before giving it to a relative. Keep an eye on the finish as they can rust, especially the grip screws if your hands sweat.
