I believe old Colts' had "Colt's PTFA Manufacturing Co." stamped on the barrels. PTFA stood for Patented Fire Arms. Could the first part of this stamping be worn off of your Colt? Or could the barrel have been cut down?

If you post the serial number range of the revolver, somebody here can tell you when it was made.

Colt might have some info as well if you call them.

Let us know though what you find. I always like hearing the history of things.

Search for that model on gunsameric.com and gunbroker.com
That should give you a good idea of current value.

For California, mark it up by at least 20% or so. Technically it would be "irreplacable" in a practical sense, due to our crappy laws.

So do you think the barrel may have been cut down at some time? I have a Colt Officers Model from 1926 and would have to cut a couple of inches off the barrel in order for it to read only "T.F.A. Manufacturing"
