    .45 ACP revolver

To the powers that be here on Claguns, what are some good choices for .45 ACP revolver? I am NOT interested in any other calibers aside from .45 ACP in a revolver.

    Thanks for the input!

ElvenSoul...you're thinking about either the 627 or the 327TRR....but those are in .357Mag. The .45ACP revolver is the 625 and comes in different barrel lengths....they use moon clips.

The typical 45ACP double-action revolver in common circulation is the S&W 625.

The S&W 45ACP revolvers are N-frame and hold 6 shots. 8-shot N-frame revolvers hold 38/357 rounds; 8 shots of 45ACP would require a painful diameter for cylinder (soup can?? )

The S&W 625 comes in 4" and 5" barrel lengths in matte stainless, and also comes in a fancy "-JM" Jerry Miculek variant with apparently dressier finish and fancy wood grips.

There's also a lightweight 325PD revolver using Titanium/Scandium alloy that's very light. It's pricey, recoil is gonna be sharper than a steel or stainless revolver. I belive there's a snubby version and a 4" version.

There may be blued Model 25 revolvers in 45ACP out there, I don't think they're in production today, or are just part of the fancy Heritage line.

Taurus may have 45ACP revolvers - I recall they had snubby 5-shot 45s. Not sure if they have a 6 shooter.

There may have been a short run of Ruger Redhawk double action revolvers (using conversion cylinder) in 45ACP & 45LC - my memory is dim.

Ruger Blackhawk 45LC revolvers often are accompanied by a spare cylinder in 45ACP. Accuracy in 45ACP can be reduced since there's ~0.001" slop btwn 45ACP and 45LC bullet diameters.

If you are looking for the purest expression of a 45ACP revolver that's an absolute tack driver, get a S&W 625. I'll leave the decision of 4" vs 5" bbl to you - I like the way my 4" gun balances.

Smith & Wesson makes a number of .45 ACP revolvers in various barrel lengths and configurations. They generally have model numbers of 25 (blued) or 625 (stainless), and many are on the CA list. They use moon clips to handle the rimless .45 ammo. Here is one of the JM (Jerry Miculek) models in the line:

I have a S&W 325 - the recoil is sharper than an equivalent all-steel revolver, but it's not unmanageable (I don't have any problems firing controlled pairs at 7 yards, for example). It's also a lot lighter to carry but it's really on the edge of concealable.

I've also had a S&W 25 (Model 1955 Target). My wife liked it as there was very little recoil but it is not a carry pistol by any stretch of the imagination by virtue of size and weight.

I've handled, but not fired, the JM 4". It's a well balanced, very solid feeling revolver. With its round butt, it's easier to conceal than the 25, but again, it's a service revolver, not a concealed carry weapon.

Your choice depends on what you intend to use it for. Smith & Wesson's website lists the following current models of .45 ACP revolvers:

325 Night Guard - 2 1/2" scandium frame (black finish)
              625 - Mountain Gun 4" and JM 4"
              25 - Classic 6 1/2" blue and nickeled
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Well.............. there is always the Colt or S&W M1917

but then you'd have to use Moon Clips as the gun is 45 Auto Rim, but the moon clips are pretty inexpensive...

My buddy has that Jerry Miculek, its a real nice shooter. I was surprised at how accurate it was. I'm thinking about getting one myself. Or maybe the thunder ranch one.

625JM 4" barrel. Very accurate, good trigger that gets better with use, balances very very well, reloads are fast. The IDPA ESR stage is designed around it.

My 625 with a 5 inch barrel has the best balence of any revolver I have fired. Love using the moon clips or 45 auto rim.

I have a 5" 625 and it is extremely accurate.

I also have a New Service in .455 Eley and a S&W hand ejector in .455, both are fun!
