Problem with Glock 23

Can anyone identify what would cause my Glock-23 to do this to spent brass?


This dent is not on every round, but its very evident on about half that I fired.



Along with this scrape pattern, the mouth is dented in at the scrapes. Its on EVERY round I have fired.

I was using Winchester white box, but also tried a few PMC from a buddy, both did the same thing.

No FTF, FTE or stove pipes. The gun is 10 years old with at least 2000 rounds through it so I know its not a break in issue.

My last few trips to the range, I was with larger groups (all with Glock .40 pistols), so no way to know how long its been doing this.

My G23's do the same thing with 180 Grain ammo.

I think is simply an ejection ding from using the hotter ammo.
When I go to 165 grain it doesn't do it as bad....nothing I notice anyway.

The ejector hits the case head. The ding is probably the case hitting the ejection port on the way out..

I'd be willing to bet you have the old 90 degree extractor.

You can have the slide altered to accomodate the newer 15 degree extractor and this should all but eliminate the brass issue.

I have a G23 (3rd gen) with the 15 degree extractor and after nearly 40k rounds down the pipe, I've never seen the issue you are having.

That was going to be my guess also. My old model 19 (9mm) did that all the time. It was a gen. 2 Glock. My gen 3 doesn't do it.

Both of my 3rd Gen. 23's leave a tiny ding on about 1/3 of the 180 grain that go through. No biggy.

Mine does the same thing. But other than that it has never given me a problem

I have a 3rd Generation G34 and I occasionally get those triangular scrapes as well. From my diagnosis of it, the scrapes comes specifically with using a combination of "hot ammo" and a weaker/worn recoil spring. The gun cycles to fast and the brass scrapes/dents as it's being ejected. Switch your recoil spring for a new one and you'll see that this should go away.

The same thing happens to my competition G34 when I fire factory or NATO spec'ed ammo through it. I normally run a very light recoil spring so when I forget to switch springs, the dents/scrapes always show up on my brass. Swapping my competition recoil spring for a newer OEM spring takes care of it.

I recommend you try this simple fix first before changing out extractors/ejectors or modifying your slide.

Thank you all for your wisdom, with 10 years of use, I could believe my recoil spring is worn. One is already on order from MidwayUSA for a whopping $6.99.
