    Commander Arrived - 1st 1911 Project Begins

    The well-worn Commander arrived today.

OK, so I've been infected with this custom 1911 virus.

I'm putting together (actually my gunsmith friend is) a 9mm Combat Commander to shoot and, sometimes, carry.

It's so worn he said he wouldn't do anything to the trigger. It feels about right.

I have some Ed Brown accessories on the way along with Novak geezer sights.

And, props, to this "EGW" company. The gal answering the phone REALLY knows her stuff.

They might be machining a stainless, Commander barrel bushing when they do their usual run Monday.

    Here's the "theme" I'm going for, looks-wise:

Bear with a noob, will ya?

If I were to still have an all steel gun, that's exactly how it'd look. Gorgeous. I wonder how that'd look with a black beavertail?

Good news is the mechanicals have worn themselves just right.
Trigger's perfect, clean, crisp, and right at 4lbs. No need for trigger work!

All the parts should be here next week, but I'm not going to rush the gunsmith's work of cutting the slide for the Novak's.

I'll probably shoot the DuraCoat in two weeks, let it dry a full week, shoot a second coat, let it dry, then back to the smith for reassembly and fitting.

I'll probably be smokin' it in about a month.

                            Hey Doc - what about a multi caliber build in 9mm, .38 Super, and 9 x 23?
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.
