Difference of Target and Regular Ammo

I found a great deal on 1,000 rounds of Federal brand FMJ target ammo. I am going to be primarily using this at the range. Are there any drawbacks of using this ammo for home defense? Does it cause damage to the gun?

What calibre and bullet weight out of curiousity. Grats on the good deal on the ammo, we should all be so lucky.

Factory FMJ loads won't damage the gun, and can be used for HD, but a good hollow-point would be better for defense useage.

although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

      .40 S&W 155 grain
$349 for 1,000 rounds. Looks cheaper than anything else being sold.
Let me know what you think.

If it is all you have, then somethin' is better than nothin'.

Jacketed hollow points for home defense if you have a choice.

Any ammo you can buy from a factory "usually" wont hurt your gun.

I think I will buy this case for the range and then a box of 50 JHPs for the house.

Do any of you know the difference in quality between target FMJ ammo and regular FMJ ammo? What classifies it as "Target Grade?"

I don't think there's any difference between "target" fmj and "regular" fmj. If you look at most boxes of fmj they say it's for use for target shooting.

There is such a thing as match grade fmj pistol ammo, but that's more of a sport-specific thing, and you probably would not be getting it at that price.
