    HSC Availability

Has it come back around yet? I'm only just over half-way through mine, but I was wondering about the state of things. Are we back to the days when you could walk into a gun store, take the test, and have your card within 10 minutes? Or are they still short and being rationed?

Also, can you get a new one before your old one expires?

Ditto... but if you're halfway through yours, it sounds like I got mine a year or so before yours.
But I've asked two different shops if my wife could take the test and get the cert just to get it out of the way and they were both willing to do it even without a purchase.

But keep in mind that you do not need to carry a current card with you unless you are in the habit of borrowing handguns from friends and (they will not be with you the whole time you have it).
It's not a "permit"... it's simply required to purchase or borrow a handgun.

If you're "halfway through" yours and you have lost your original and are planning to buy a gun, return to the shop that issued yours and you can get a replacement for $10. That'll save you $15.
If you're over 3 years into your original, then you may as well just get a new one... no reason to pay $10 for a replacement that only has $5 or $10 "worth" left in it.

Thanks. I got mine laminated and keep it with me, simply because I don't want to miss out on a smoking deal if I happen to see one. I know it's not a permit to own or possess, but it is required for buying (most of the time).

I just remember seeing lots of posts on here a while ago about limited availability of the actual cards at gun stores.

yup, during the buying craze, some HSC instructors were finding it difficult to get blank HSC cards from CADOJ. Seems that CADOJ could/would not get them printed fast enough to keep the instructors stocked up. As a result, some HSC instructors would only administer the test to a person who was gonna buy a handgun from them. Thought being, why waste a card on someone who isn't gonna buy from me, and then have a paying customer not be able to buy a handgun if I run out of HSC cards.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

pfft, with a little help from ACORN you can easily get 125%, minimum.

I got mine back in June, all I had to do was stroll into Jackson Arms and take the test. They were, oddly, out of English answer sheets; I had to fill in my answers on a Spanish sheet, but the only difference there is substituting "V" for "T" on the True/False section.
