    Smith and Wesson what frame

I want to get some grips for my dads SW 357 Revolver. No idea what frame it is how do i find that out, I looked at the bottom of the handle and its starts with a D. Does that mean anything?
    Thanks

Swing open the cylinder; what's stamped on the frame?

First determine the model number, and then purchase the appropriate grips.

The model number should be inside the crane area of the frame, visible when you open the cylinder - if the piece is pre-1955 approixmately, there won't be a model number, and you'll have to identify the piece by model name (if known)
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.
