Question About Cobra Derringer

Hey everyone I am looking for a small carry weapon and found the Cobra Derringer Big Bore .38, and surprisingly it is actually a "safe" gun for CA.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Cobra Derringer's? This would basically be a pocket gun for me, I have a few other concealable pistols that will be on my CCW also.

I use to have a Davis 38 derringer which I think is the same as the Cobra. For a belly gun it was ok but it was hard to shoot accurately at any distance. The trigger on it had to be at least 15lbs. or maybe more. It always went bang and it would be easy to conceal. You also need to carry hammer down so you need to cock before you fire it. Mark

I have heard that sometimes if you contact Cobra when you are having an issue with heavy trigger pull they will send out a repair kit.

Well, the downsides will be the heavy trigger, quite a bit of recoil, and poor accuracy. Then again, maybe the accuracy could be better if the trigger wasn't as heavy, who knows. The grip isn't very comfortable, either. There're extraction issues after 4 shots fired. I'd go with either a small revolver, or a pocket semiauto.

And yes, I own Cobra Derringers in .38 and .32, as curios.

Ok, that is what I have been reading in the reviews. I like them because of their size and price but I guess I can keep looking around.

You can keep looking around..but the new-and-OK-to-shoot derringer choices are pretty expensive once you leave these Davis (etc) guns behind.
Most older derringers are too valuable, too weak, or ammo is too rare to shoot.
I have the D-38.
Yes, the trigger pull is so tough it acts like a second safety.
Works great for pocket carry with snake shot.
Real ammo at contact distances only as recoil is fairly fierce with .38Spl SD ammo.
For not much money, you can own it, fondle it, shoot it and take it apart to see how it works.
I paid $34.95 for mine years ago, and have certainly got a good entertainment value for the dollar spent from this gun.
It has never failed to fire; function is great (other than sticky extraction with some ammo)...you can't say that about many guns.
