how to decock a XD?

Remove the magazine, obviously remove any round in chamber, make sure to do a visual check, pull trigger. Has no external decocker like some models.

Like most striker fired pistols, your trigger IS the decocker. The only striker fired pistol that I know with a decocker is the Taurus 24/7 Pro DS model.

FWIW I just learned that the new XDM does not require the striker to be lowered to do fied stripping, where the Glock and old XD do.

As others have said, you must unload and pull the trigger. You cannot chamber a round and then decock unless you want a bullet to come flying out the muzzle.

Doesn't the Cali-legal XD have a magazine disconnect? Wouldn't you have to put the mag back in after doing the visual check for an empty chamber so you can pull the trigger?

No XDs have mag disconnect. They are all grandfathered in so they don't need to have it.

for the xd empty the gun and pull the trigger as said before. if your trying to ride with one in the chamber and decocked its not gonna happen

There are some pretty good posts on that one, but I think the main point that came out of them was, don't do it on rimfire, but in most cases no harm will occur... Although there was some later mention of S&W M&P having some potential of side effects. I use snap caps anyway, necessary or not...

I am a 1911 guy, I don't care to dry fire. I don't care to pull the trigger unless at the range or other safe place.

My Father taught me the devil loads the gun, so even if you just cleaned it or cleared it the devil loads it so I just leave my XD cocked. The load chamber pin just always sticks out, kind off worthless if you ask me.

These guys make a kevlar product I assume for safety and many ND's by people carrying Glock and XD type pistols.
