    refinish?

This was my dad's duty weapon from the 80's. It has some holster wear, but not too bad. I know it has character like it is. He carried always. I even have his holster. I think I'm answering my own question, but I have seen some amazing finish work lately. Maybe I should just buy that Security Six...

Looks fine to me. I see nothing but character and memories. Nothing to refinish.

Keep it just the way he carried it, it served him well, and will do the same for you, plus provide memories.

          Don't refinish it!

Dont mess with it, looks great how it is. If you want a perfect shiney gun, buy a new one and leave it in the safe.

              Consider S&W's Restoration Package

Normally I'd say leave it alone as others have stated. I do however, think that what you have is an excellent candidate for the "Restoration Package" offered by Smith & Wesson's Performance Center. For a very reasonable fee, the Performance Center will re-blue your revolver, install new lockwork, and give it a thorough inspection. What you'll receive back is a revolver that has been factory restored to it's original splendor. What better way to honor your father and his career in law enforcement?

Tough decision here. I could go either way. If your dad is still around, why don't you ask him what he thinks. Otherwise I think it might be best to leave it the way it is. If it was some gun you just picked up from a sale, then for sure I'd say refinish it.

I bet you he was proud of the wear and tear on it.

dont do it. if you are never gonna sell it, who cares how it looks. it is an heirloom now and it needs to be kept the way they are passed down.

I say leave it as is. It's like the M&P that was given to me by my wife's Grandfather. Sure it has some wear, but for a revolver that was made in the '40s it looks great and will not be refinished. I personally will never restore any family heirlooms. I will only shoot, clean, and eventually hand them down.

Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion to your walks." -- Thomas Jefferson
