How hard to maintain a 1911

I have been on this site for a short time and have not seen this question, so hopefully not a dupe. I started shooting this year with a Ruger 22/45, a bit of a pain to clean, but got used to it. Have a FNP9 and a CZ SP01 that I just got, and both are easy to clean. Looking at getting a 1911. Have always wanted one, and have shot a couple, but wondering how difficult it is to take them apart and clean/maintain. Does it depend on the make? Your advice is appreciated.

Probably one of the easiest firearms to strip down to the frame.

Don't let a little extra effort in cleaning cause you to deny yourself one of the greatest handguns ever designed.

I got my 1st 1911 about 2 months ago. 1st cleaning took a little time, 2nd time was much easier. Not as simple as my Glock but not too bad.

by the time I was 9 I could tear it down and put it back together blindfolded...
couldn't do it now mind you ... but then...

There are more parts then a Sig or a Glock, but its easy. Don't let that put you off. There is a reason this gun has been around as long as it has and is still being produced in large numbers. Its a reliable, simple tried and tested design. They are a great gun and really rewarding to own and maintain. I rotate between my Sig and Combat Commander in the night stand.

i was probably about 3 years behind you. My dad taught me when he got his first 1911. Now i have 2 piece guide rod.

+1 on be careful about not making the idiot mark the first time you put it back together.
