    question/possible issue with my new sub-compact XD9

So, I took it out to the range for the very first time yesterday. Worked perfect, great gun - absolutely loved it. BUT, after the first few magazines the slide would not lock back upon firing the last round in the magazine...that's not right, is it? I have a Glock, Sig, and S&W M&P, and they all lock back after the final round is fired and I would assume the XD is supposed to as well. Is this something I should have looked at?

    Thanks,

    Yes. Slide should lock back.

This doesn't exactly denote perfection to me ;-) Go back and make sure you're not touching the slide stop during shooting. If you aren't, it may be a spring issue.

Does the slide lock back when you open it by hand with an empty magazine? If so, its probably you.

True, True lol. I just loved the gun in general, compared to all of the other polymer framed handguns I have. Very natural point 'n' shoot feel.

Hmmm...I'll have to check that out next time, but I don't think that would be the cause simply because I don't have that issue with any other handgun I have and I shoot the same way for all.

My xd 40 is the 4" and I've only put about 250 rounds through it. This has happened to me at least twice, perhaps its me, Its my first and only handgun at the moment, I chocked it up to being a new gun.

What ammo were you shooting? The only time I've had trouble getting the slide to lock back on my 4" XD was when I was shooting some weak reloads that were causing me a whole host of problems.

Somehow my buddy did that on my XD9sc as well but he was limp wristing it pretty bad. He can somehow get all my guns to jam up on him when I have never had a failure.

I was shooting Speer Lawman, so I doubt the ammo was the issue. It very well may have been me putting pressure on the slide stop lever...the gun is rather small compared to what I'm used to.
