    Really excited!

Last night I was talking with my Grandfather, who is visiting from Oregon for the next 6 weeks.

We got into discussing shooting etc.. and he mentioned that he has been working on a little project.

He asked me if I'd like to own a .45, which I enthusiastically replied yes to, and it seems he and my Uncle are repairing an old gun of his.

Last time I saw this gun has been over 15 years ago and I remember it to be a Colt 1911, but I can't swear to it.

I really feel honored that he would gift this gun to me, as it is the same he won his "Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge" with in 1960. I know it's a gun that has special meaning to him, and I'm humbled that he'd think of me.

I hope to have picture to post come spring.

Pistol is here and sooner then expedited, so here are some pictures. We believe it to be a 1925 model. It was refinished sometime back in the 60's. (Lemonade container fell over on the way to Camp Perry, says he pulled it out to shoot and it was bright Red.)

I'm really anxious to put some rounds down range. I've got some hand-loads he did back in the early 70's.

Brass is untarnished and clean. No splits, all evenly seated. I've never heard of powder going bad unless it was wet...

Nice gift. Hope it shoots well for you, and you will always remember him because of it. I have a Enfield 303 that my dad use to hunt with and a old Remington Semi 20g that belonged to my grandmother. I wish I had my dads old Ruger .22, but my mom sold it after he passed. Went and purchased one of my own as my first handgun, but not the same.

              Have fun.

Nice! One question tho. What are those marks on the front of the grip. Is that damage from the lemonade container.

Enjoy your new gun and I'm sure you will treasure it coming from your grandfather.

Adhesive from grip tape. the steel is actually pitted slightly from it. White doesn't come off with rubbing, maybe a light solvent. I've been working a lot the last week or so and havn't had a chance to try to clean it up any.

Haha, no not a chance of that! I have been looking around for Colt grip panels though.
