    1911 grips keep coming loose.

Hey I just got back from shooting my new Kimber Warrior, my first 1911, and the grip screws kept coming loose. I'd put 24 rounds or 3 mags through it and have to retighten the screws. I'm new to shooting, is this common. Can I use a little Loc-Tite to secure them?

Get some #60 O-Rings. Place (1)one each between the screws and grip. Done deal.

It's funny I've been shooting 1911s for 25-30 years and have never had grips come loose. I'd just leave off the loctite and snug them down really good. Loctite makes it a real bear when you want to take grips off - 1/2 the time the bushings will come off with the loctited screws. If you must use loctite then use the really weak purple stuff.

That's the only reason I recommended #60 O-Rings (Seems better than a glue). Heard many complaining of G-10 grips getting loose. I don't have any 1911s w/G-10 grips. So, like you, I have never had a problem with grip screws getting loose.

Note: If you have wood grips, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.

Also try a touch of clear fingernail polish on the threads. You can "borrow" it from your wife's stash of polishes.

Yep! This works too. There's nothing like hot red polish
