If its not on the CA approved list it will not happen however you can buy any approved 1911 and send it to them to have the work done. You can have every thing from a G.I model full blown to a custom to a high end like a TRP to get some work done. If you want any work done contact Deb at the custom shop. She is great and their custom work is top shelf.

I just had them do some custom work for my XD - great work. Had a Bar-Sto barrel installed, trigger job, and fiber optic front sight.

It is very smooth and shoots great. Still shooting great after 2,000 rounds.

      regards

Not concerned about legality with this question. Just curious how to go about ordering one.

Are you talking about sending a pistol in or ordering from their brochure?

If you want to order something like the Pro or Custom Carry all you have to do is place an order with your dealer. He'll contact the Custom Shop and they'll give a target date for delivery. Put 1/3 down, and pay the rest when the pistol is completed. Pretty simple really, the hard part is waiting.

If you are talking about upgrading a pistol all you have to do is find a suitable gun and send it in. Fill out the form specifying what work you want done and in a few months you'll have your custom 1911. This is the same way it's done with other shops.

But can't you have them make the custom carry any way you want? Have them change color add checkering and what not. Do you still do that through the dealer or through SA direcly

Yes, but the problem is the approved list and how the DOJ defines the pistol (features, color..... this is how they stick it to the manufacture. Exact same pistol one blued and the other none blued= both must be drop tested/destroyed). LEO exemption of non-approved handguns can custom order from the ground up only. In other words if the SCS submits the custom carry with standard features and its approved for sale, that is the only way you can order it, SCS will not ship it "new" any other way unless your a LEO. There is a big sticker on it that states "not California compliant" As others have stated you can send it back for work.

Do you still do that through the dealer or through SA direcly Either, but dealers with a SA account could really stick it to you for not ordering with them, it all depends on your relationship with the transferring dealer

I have 2 custom shop pistols, any questions or concerns you can e-mail me or PM me. I don't spend much time on the errornet so please be patient if you decide to contact me.

Wouldnt the dealer just charge the standard transfer fee? Thanks for the answer. I know about the ca gun law. Just wondering how to go about ordering a custom from SA.

Just contact Springfield Custom Shop with what gun you want to order with the specifics and and order it. They will either sell it to your FFL so he could make a few bucks on the deal or just buy from them direct and have it sent to the FFL. If they want to just send it and you pay them than a standard out of state transfer fee should be applied by the FFL. Be prepared to wait some time though. I know of some people that have had to wait 15-18 months but the average seems to be about 11-13 months.

If you have a good relationship with your FFL I suggest getting your 1911 through him. That's what I did and I saved money doing so. The Custom Shop will sell you a gun of course, but they'll do so at list price. I got my Custom Carry for less than MSRP.
