my GI SA Inc 1911A1 with over 30K rounds through it rattles like a old clunker car.. but it wil stil hold the 9 ring on a B-27 target at 50yds using a baracade hold......

I'm glad to hear you're sticking with a Springfield. My reasoning would be to save a little more for a Loaded model. I believe the most common upgrades to a 1911 are to add better sights and a beavertail grip safety. I believe you would get this and more to begin with on a Loaded model. It's much better to have it all in the beginning from the manufacturer.

I'm preparing to build a 1911 and have been doing a lot of reading. It seems that many builders can build a reliable pistol and many builders can build an accurate pistol. There's more time and therefore more money involved with building a reliable and accurate pistol that doesn't rattle. A really tight fitting smooth cycling accurate and reliable pistol with a crisp trigger break comes with a healthy price tag. And if it's pretty on top of all that...

I'll bet the pistol is probably really dry. Put some FP-10 on the rails and you'll see some improvement.

the rattling sound I hear from my Kimber is actually from the guide rod... I had thought it was slide to frame fit but there are no horizontal and vertical play (tightened it using slide fitting bars).

My commander is a loose gun but trouble free too and is accurate.My springfield i had was a tighter gun but i wouldnt have put my life on it.Was accurate too just not as reliable.A barrel swap would have solved some probs though.
