? for noob buying a glock

So I am planning to buy a glock for my first handgun, somewhat cheap, reliable, easy to strip... I figured the g19 since I like the somewhat compact style and the 9mm might be easier to handle then say a .45. So my questions are

    1. Fixed sights are better then adjustable, correct?

    2. Does gssf still sell guns? I read somewhere that they sell some glocks around $390 but cant find a link on their website. Or if anyone knows of a place to get one cheap in the bay area (preferably new).

your in the east bay? goto the antioch armory they got fair prices and they're good people
go with the 9mm if its your 1st hand gun ammos alot cheaper then work your way up later with new toys.
Id recommend the good ol G17 if your going for a 9mm
I believe they have them new for $519

      1. Fixed sights are better. You'll probably want to get night sights (~$85-100). I hate the stock Glock sights.

      2. GSSF will take forever. If you want it now, go to TargetMasters in Milpitas. IIRC, they had them in the high 4, low 5 range.

Go rent/hold both a G17 and a G19. Make sure the gun feels very comfortable in your hand before you buy.

          Dont Tread on Me

Go for it. I'm sure you will be happy with a G19. It is a great shooting and reliable gun with cheap ammo.

Fixed sights work better for tactical use as you won't be varying loads and looking for tiny groups. If you plan to shoot bullseye then adjustable sights might be the way to go. I don't shoot that sport so cannot advise on which gun to buy but I'm sure it would not be a G19. Adjustable sights will also tear your hands apart if you get training and work your slide with the aggressive "sling shot" style.

Other than getting good night sights, I'd recommend that you leave a Glock as Mr Glock made it.

Use the money you would spend on extended switches and custom barrels and get some training and learn how to make the Glock really fly!

G19 was my first gun. I still miss it, it was a handy little thing, even if the trigger was meant for a leper.

Excellent choice for your first handgun. Fixed sights are ok. Adjustables, you don't need it. If you can shell out some more dough, add night sights.

For the best prices, call around and check the classifieds.

And why would he want to do this? Even sigforum is extremely open to Glocks

The G19 is a great first gun. It's compact, soft shooting, and reliable.

                      GSSF rocks!!!

I bought my G35 .40S&W from GSSF. Saved $100+ if I were to buy it locally.
The best thing about ordering from GSSF is that you can order it Burger King style: OD Green, Trijicon night sights, 3.5 lb. connector and NY1 trigger springs:

Their membership discount only shows up later in the year. After shopping around online, local gun shops, etc. GSSF had the better deal. Have you tried a .40 caliber?

                      Results at 25 yrds:

                      Good luck with your choice.

My first gun was a G19. Still have it, will never sell it. Slapped on a set of Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eights (great set of fixed night sights, btw), a little skateboard tape, and it's good to go. OEM Glock sights are a joke (unless yours came with nights).

Go for it. G19's a best buy.

Since this is your first handgun you might consider purchasing a G17. The longer sight radius may help with accuracy. Not that there is anything wrong with a compact like the G19. +1 on getting the night sights.

I seriously suggest renting both and seeing which you shoot better. Unless you intend to carry concealed, a full size might be the ticket.

make sure it's comfortable in your hands, g19 is smaller so the recoil will seem to be more than the g17. but what ever you choose, make sure you like it, makes the world of difference.

I personally do not like Glocks, but I think they are a decent weapon. I think that Sig, Hk, and a few others probably are a little better quality, but at this level it really comes down to personal preference. I actually would probably suggest that if he has not already done so, to handle several different makes and models. Then rent a few that felt good and see what he shoots the best with and what feels the best to him. I still stand by my original 9mm and fixed night sights suggestions.
