    Compare S&W M&P with Glock

So i have pretty much decided my next handgun would be a double stack 9mm polymer gun, was dead set on a glock untill the M&P line of guns caugh my attention. I have shot a Glock before and love the point and shoot type of feel and sturdy ness. Now keeping in mind I have not handled/shot a M&P. What would be the pros and cons between the two ?

Off the top of my head.

    M&P

    - Double stack
    -Rail
-Beefy / seems to have the " point and shoot " feel to it.
    -Safety lever ?
    -Trigger safety
-Looks more egronomic than a Glock.
-Rear sights seems more user friendly / higher than a glocks'
-MADE IN AMERICA *I think lol

    Glock
    -Double stack
    -Rail
    -Beefy, point and shoot
    -Trigger safety
    -Time tested, great handgun.

    I am considering the M&P 9 or the G17-19 3rd gen , so what say ye ?

Personally,I prefer the M&P because of the more "normal" grip angle---if you are used to shooting say 1911, P35 or almost any pistol the M&P will feel like the rest, the glock will require a different grip (wrist) angle or it will shoot high. Other then that, they are both good.

I know it bothers some people but I feel that the glocks grip angle is manageable. I could go back and forth from 1911 grip to Glock grip and shoot at what I like to call a proficient level but thats of course as long as I know what I'm holding

I own a G17 and have shot the M&P. The M&P is definitely more ergonomic. The Glock takes some getting used to. However, I trust the Glock construction and functionality over the M&P.

Both are great guns, the M&P has interchangeable backstraps to make the grip more user friendly, but also has the mag safety, the Glock has no mag safety, but the grip is what you see is what you get. If you like to fiddle with stuff, Glocks are the small block Chevy of pistols, the mods are almost limitless, and cheap too, not much out here for the M&P. In all fairness, Glocks have been out for twenty years longer than the M&P's, so that's got a bit to do with it also. Rent both of them, and then decide, you can't go wrong either way. One other note, M&P mags are in VERY short supply, so if you need to get a bunch of mags, you're SOL.

I have the GLOCK 17 and love it! I also owned a GLOCK 19 in the early 90's and also loved it! I only sold it because I needed the money at the time.

I've shot a M&P 9mm full size and didn't care for the lack of a "noticeable" trigger reset like the GLOCK.

In a SHTF/Zombie scenario you can turn a GLOCK 17/19/26 into a select-fire 33rd machine pistol in less than 5 minutes!

I prefer my M&P 9 over my G19. Both are great guns.

The LE version of the M&P does not have a mag safety. I like the trigger on the M&P better, along with the changable grip sizes.

I had a G23 as my CCW gun. Sold it to buy an M&P40 Compact because of the better ergonomics.

The M & P definitely feels better in the hand. It is just more ergonomic. There are a few things that make it the wrong choice for me though.

                  1) I have legally owned hi-cap magazines for my Glocks.

                  2) It is no secret that Glocks are tough as nails and utterly dependable. Sure, the M & P probably is too, but we all KNOW the Glock is - and that seems like a hard thing to give up for the sake of ergonomics. Not to bash the M&P - I think it is a great gun. I don't even particularly like Glocks (I'm a 1911 guy for the most part) I just can't get into any of the polymer guns BESIDES a glock for that reason. For over 20 years, millions, and millions, and MILLIONS of the damn things have proven their ability. Yes, all modern handguns are pretty reliable, and yes, the XD and M&P and others are more likely than not every bit as tough and reliable as a Glock - they just don't have the super long track record the Glock does, and I find that track record comforting.

The thumb safety option on the M&P is AWESOME though, and a feature I really wish was available on a Glock - just a personal preference thing.

I have owned a couple Glocks and have fondled an M&P but have never shot one. I like the grip angle of the M&P better, and the adjustable backstraps could give your hand a better fit for the gun. I also though the trigger had a much cleaner/crisper break than the Glock trigger which is sometimes described as a wet twig snapping. I'd say you have to just go out and shoot them to find out which one you like more.

Supposedly, the Gen 4 Glocks will have interchangeable backstraps so that'll be a definite plus. And IMHO, Glock would not have done this if the M&P wasn't seen as a serious challenger to Glock's dominance in the LE market.

Hmm, don't know how I would feel about Glock doing that. Aren't the new RTF2 frames technically considered the "gen. 4" Glocks? My RTF2 doesn't have that.

For all those that question the M&P reliability or haven't seen tests done on it, go here:

It's a toss up between this and a Glock, get whatever you shoot best and feel most comfortable with, or you can do what I did and get both

If you reload, the M&Ps are easier on your brass. I picked the M&P because I don't care for the trigger on the Glock.
