    1911 HELP PLEASE

Hi all: My good friend and shootin buddy bought a used Armscor 5 inch .45 slide to put on an Essex frame, the slide is .140 to short and his new extractor sticks out the back .70 thousands, I measored my series 80 Gold Cup and it's about .100 thousands longer than the Armscor, Armscor in Pawrump Nev. told him that if the slide is too short they grind the frame .140 thousands and polish it, they didn't say anything about the extraxtor sticking out .70 thousands, they said all their guns are fit that way and even if the sent a replacement slide it would have to be fit to the frame. what ever happened to 1911 blueprints? or customer service, they also said that the guns are made in the Phillipines whatever that means, I would really appreciate any helpfor him, he is a lousy shot but a good guy, Thanks Joe

I'd put this in the gunsmithing forum, if you want the right answers.

There's no problem with machining off the back end of the extractor. It's a purely aesthetic operation.

leelaw: We agree that cutting the extractor is no problem but what about cutting the frame .140 ? Thanks.

My Kimber .22lr conversion kit would NOT fit into my 1911 Armscor .45 either...Talked to a gunsmith and he said either the frame or the conversion kit needs grinding...

Is the barrel fitted properly? An incorrect length link can affect the location of the rear of the slide.

yup, totally agree. essex frames are quite premium forged steel frames, no need putting some junk cast metal slide from the philippines on such a frame. even if your friend didn't run into any reliability issues with the slide, i and many others would feel that a uniform frame and slide in forged steel is the way to go.

i would even think your most basic standard GI mil-spec slide made in america would fare much better in the long run.
