    Pro: It looks nice

    Con: It looks blingy.

You won't really affect the performance or durability by stripping away the finish. I've polished the barrel hood off my G34, I've done a whole barrel on a G23, it's fine. Looks sorta cool, but in all actuality, I prefer the all black.

    P.S. Don't use a dremel.

You can do use sand paper, a brillo pad, and a dremmel. Not to sure about the inside though.

Dip in vinegar for a few hours, then brush off with pad.

Will the vinegar trick work on a ruger slide? mine is getting worn from the holster so its either paint it or strip it.

It wont do anything to the inside of the barrel, all it does is strip the finish.

I used polish, such as simichrome, flitz or Blue Magic and polished the bluing off by hand.

just make sure to clean and oil the whole barrel once your done. Run a dry patch after to rid the excess oil from the bore.

I polished my G27 barrel along with other parts. I sold it though about 6-7 months back to a Calgunner. I just used a dremel with a polish wheel and some turtle wax. Worked like a charm. I've done about 3 barrels this way and all have looked great.

If you ever want to do your slide like in the pictures on the first page be sure to used a glass sheet as a work top. Tape the sand paper to the glass and wet it down. Run the slide up and down on the paper and NEVER in circles. Start with a lowish grit and work your way up till you get the polish you want. Let me warn you though about polishing the slide, it will not resist rust like it used to. The higher you polish it the less rust you will build but it will need constant care esp if you plan to carry it IWB. The oil from your skin will increase the rust time.
