    XD45 Recoil

I've recently started trying to shoot my XD45 in some IDPA matches and wanted to reduce some of the recoil of the gun. What are some of the things that you guys have done to your 45s to reduce recoil? Stronger slide spring or reloads with a lighter powder charge?

    give more info

What type of ammo r u using? Just get use to it. Keep shooting it more. Desensitize yourself to the recoil. How do you hold it? how do you stand when shooting?

Check out the xdtalk forum. From what I have seen, most people will change out the guide rod to something more solid and heavier and also change their springs.

The stock guide rod weighs less than an ounce IIRC. Don's Guide rods makes (for the tactical at least) a steel one for 20 bucks that's 2.4 oz, and a tungsten one for 80 that's 4.6 oz. IDPA rules are pretty clear that they don't allow tungsten guide rods (maybe for CDP), and but a non-standard steel one is ok if I've read the rules right.

I've got a 45 tactical, and the recoil seems entirely manageable. Perhaps more trigger time? I could get a guide rod, but i'd rather have another magazine or two.
If you're not a resident of California, please don't waste your time trying to sell handguns here. A: your handgun is not on the approved list, and can't be sold here or B: We can already get it here with less hassle.

Thank you CGF and Leadership FFLs for NeRFing the roster!

Change to 185 or 200 grain bullets. Even moving fast enough to make the 165 power factor there will be less recoil.

          Good luck
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Do you have a recipe that you are currently using?

I was considering using the XD45 5in for USPSA but I only seem to find the 4in model around. The 4in should work well with a less grain ammo, correct?

I've been using 5 grains of Winchester 231 under a 200 grain lead semi-wadcutter in our local plate matches. OAL = 1.255" and crimp = .47" at case mouth of finished round.

This gives a fairly soft impulse, although I will admit it's the only combo I've tried so far, so I can't really compare it to anything else. (I'm using the stock spring in my 1911 -- 16lbs, with one of those recoil buffer pads that slides onto your guide rod.)
