You came into ownership illegally, but you can rectify the situation with this form and $19.

I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

    and

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

There is no penalty for late registration.

My friends inherited lot of guns from his fathers (deceased), all the guns got no registrations (old guns) so he just keep them legally?

              Long guns, yes.

Handguns, since 1994, should have filed the 'operation of law' form. Anecdotally, DOJ seems not really to care about just that issue, but in association with some other criminal activity the prosecution might bring it up.

Out of curiosity, is it just me or does the lack of penalty for late registration seem oxymoronic? One could fail to do a PPT through a FFL and then file a voluntary registration later on. I would hope to think that the DOJ checks the serial on hand guns for whom was the previous owner and why they failed to preform a legal PPT. Disclaimer- I am not advocating unlawful actions.

Are you familiar with California gun laws that make sense?

As to checking prior owners, CA law does not require that handguns be registered per se - there are probably millions of handguns that were not transferred in CA after 1991, and it's legal to transfer them anyway. But current handgun transfers will, via DROS, functionally register the guns.

Exactly, fill out the form and send it in. Who knows if they will actually read the part that says how long you have have had it, at the end of the day all the State cares about is that the gun is registered and they got a check.

By the way the way the law is written it specifically says, that an owner that registers their pistol after the 60 day mandatory registration period(doesn't matter if it's 1 day or 15 years late), can not get in trouble for registering the handgun late, if the only way the State becomes aware of it being late is via the owner registering it.
