HK USP45 questions.

Hello everyone. I just got my HK USP45 back after having some Trijicon Fixed Night sights installed. I just have a few questions about this pistol.

1. Is there a place to get the ambi-safety for a reasonable price and in stock?
2. Does someone make an extended slide release?
3. Can someone install the automatic slide release function of the early models?
4. Where I can get a decent trigger job on the cheap?
5. Where I can get the LEM trigger assembly and have installed on the cheap?
6. Where can I get a kit to make a Match version of this pistol?
7. Are the Trijicon Night Sights better than the Meprolight Night Sights?

A) There is nothing cheap when it comes to Hk ( period )

1) Ambi release are available
2) not aware of
3) Auto slide release? Never heard of one...maybe you have seen a mag forced into the well causing the slide to move forward?? Seen it done on Glocks

You have purchased a $800+ pistol, don't go cheap now. Correct trigger work and upgrades are a valuable investment with the gun. My guess is that you already just spent about $100 in new sights (installed). A few hundred bucks aren't going to kill you but installing a trigger yourself (harder than it looks to get right on an H&K) can lead to damage to the frame and destroy your investment. The H&K trigger is a little different than some others, but with time it smooths out and you get used to it. I love mine.

With regards to this "auto" slide release, it's not a "feature" you can have installed. Early reports with this gun suggested that when people were inserting mags, the slide was closing on its own. Not all guns did this and it did take some force to get it to happen. If I recall correctly, turns out this was more of an anamoly than an intended feature. With the right practice, you can position your thumb and get this "feature" on just about any semi auto with a manual slide lock.

I had the LEM trigger with light springs installed by HK in Georgia a couple years ago. USP45f. Total round trip was less than 10 days. The work was perfect and the trigger very smooth and crisp from day 1. Cost was very reasonable, just slightly more than the shipping itself. I also had the option of removing the manual safety altogether or leaving it functional. I chose to remove it as it's really not helpful. Just remember, it won't go BANG as long as you stay away from the trigger. Kinda logical, I think.

I wish I could have the sights and installation for $100, most shops are charging $130 just for the sights alone and another $30 to 40 for installation. Which is a better setup, the LEM or the Match Trigger assembly? I am looking for a shorter and lighter trigger pull with little to no slack. Do I need to have an actual trigger job on top of one of those assemblies to get the best trigger pull possible? I feel that the current setup does not compare to my Sig but is alot better than a Stock Glock.

if that is your goal, the answer is usually yes.

it bothers the heck out of Sig X-Five owners too, but once you have felt the difference, you will understand. the question always comes down to whether you'll be able to appreciate the quality of the better action

I don't like the LEM trigger. It converts the gun into a light, shorter stroke double action trigger system that is similar to the glock or XD. I briefly owned a P2000 set up with an LEM trigger but sold it as I didn't care for the trigger system. I am not a glock fan either though. The match trigger has an overtravel adjustment screw and has much less uptake and stacking than the normal USP trigger.

I do really like the H&K USP match triggers but they really do need to be installed by an expert. I have owned them on a MK23 and USP45 expert (both regretably now sold). Other than the adjustment screw which can pick up belly button lint like crazy, it was / is an excellent trigger. If you can send it back to H&K, they do an excellent job and you will retain their warranty. They installed one on my MK23 back in about 1998 with no issues. Turn around time was short, if memory holds, and the fit was perfect. They currently offer a USP45f set up with a match trigger from the factory that they call the "tactical" which is not offered for sale in CA as it has a threaded barrel and is not on the DOJ list.

If you ever plan on carrying this gun for duty or CCW (pretty big for CCW), I recomend sticking with the factory trigger upgrade (match) installed by the factory or a factory authorized gunsmith.

As an asside, make sure that your front sight is staked in place. The specs on the front sight are not held to a very close standard on these guns and I have encountered significant front sight drift with non-staked sights. This is NOT something that they commonly do at most shops when they install them but should be done by a competent gunsmith to avoid marring the finish to much.

I have heard great things about Bruce Gray from grayguns.com. They have several different trigger mods that they can do for the USP. Otherwise I would look on hkpro.com forum, I am sure you could get your questions answered there.
