Oxpho-Blue works well. Keep in mind the color may not match 100%. Remove all oils prior to using cold blue.

They will eventually wear with use and cleaning. Paper products can also scratch the bluing a bit. Soft cloth is best for cleaning. Stay away from using those lead away cloths, these will take off bluing.

It's pretty good for what it is and what it costs. Of course, it's still much preferable to have your pistol professionally stripped and hot-blued, but that's going to run at least $100. For a couple of blemishes, the Brownell's can do the trick.

I've found that most of the cold blues work well when matching a matte type finish if a bit of heat is applied. For example, a little scratch on the top of a 1911 slide usually is covered fine, a scratch on the polished side - not so good. The brand "44-40" works well also.

One thing to be aware of is that some cold blues can create a tinge of rust after a while, if you don't finish off the area with a slight spot of oil - but a bit of oil can cause the just reblued area to cloud a bit. I have a 1" paintbrush "dampened" with a bit of oil. An hour or so after touch up I do a little whisking of the reblued spot, just enough to get a slight amount of oil on it.

I saw a pen that looked like a sharpy at Big 5 the other day for touching up blueing. My shotgun has a few nicks on it so I was considering it but it seemed almost too easy. Does anyone have any experience with the touch up pen?
