PPT question: Required ID's

Hi guys,

I lurk around here once in a while and have used the FAQ's to build myself an AR (rifle length Stag) thanks to you guys. However, I have a question about PPTs.

As a seller, will I need to show my driver's license and proof of residency again? I have a G17 that sits unused and I'd looking to sell it and get some sort of .22 caliber rifle.

If you are the seller all you need is your DL, if you are the buyer then you need DL and SPOR. Not hard,

Call the FFL and ask to be certain of what they want and what they will or will not accept as far as ID.

Two minutes on the phone can save a lot of headaches.

Yeah, just called the FFL. Seller only needs DL. Buyer needs ID, proof of residency, and HSC in the case of a handgun.

I know it's probably obvious, but it must be a permanent *California* driver's license or DMV issued ID. No temporaries allowed. No passports allowed. No out-of-state IDs allowed.

That sounds correct.

Side note: Some places also require a new lock to be purchased/receipt presented by the buyer for PPT's.

also, as a seller.make sure your address on your ID is not a P.O box,Don't know if this is Turners policy but I have a friend who purchased a handgun and they required the seller to have a physical address.I'm assuming it's not because they were able to do a PPT at another FFL.

It's Law. 4473 even states no P.O Boxes

The 4473 does not say that you can't have a P.O.Box on your DL, but that if you do not have your current physical address on the ID, that you have to provide POR thad does have your physical address on it. And the 4473 rules don't even apply to the seller in a PPT, just the buyer.

That's what I thought, why the other FFL able to do it and not Turners???

I'm not sure. I don't know of any CA regs that require you to have a physical address on the ID when selling a firearm.

What if you just moved and have a proof of residency at the new address, but you haven't gotten around to updating your CA driver's license just yet? So, CA DL does NOT have current address... Oh and this is for purchasing, not selling.

you just fill out the 4473 with your current address and use POR that confirms the current address.

I just did a quick scan of my A/D book and don't see any P.O. Boxes where I record the sellers name and address. I guess I've never had a seller with a P.O. Box on their license. I think I'd at least ask them for a physical address but not require any "proof" of such. I'd also change it on the DROS form just in case there is some requirement to record the physical address of the seller too.
