Taurus Revolver Question

Well looking at pickin up my first revolver with my tax return monies. Thank you IRS.

I am deciding between .357 mag and .44 mag. Not my first time around the block with a big bore pistol. This will be more for plinkin and occasional nightstand duties so to speak.

There are reasons for me not considering Smith and Wesson as fine of a revo company they are. First is of course money. Second I like the way the Taurus's shoot and feel in my hands. The three models are listed below.

Taurus Tracker Model 627SS6 .357 MSRP $553


I love the styling on the 627SS6, it is clean simple, was a pleasure to shoot. I also like stainless steel finish.

Taurus Raging Bull Model 444B8 .44 MSRP $625


I love the styling on these next two models as well, however I do not care that much for the bluing on the 444B8. Much more fond of stainless. However price is partly a concern but with the only $65 it isn't a deal breaker at all.

What I would like to know is street prices? What can I expect to pay? What issues if any have owners out there had? Pros and Cons of the guns? Dump it on me folks. Let me know.

There is currently only one model of the raging bull line shown on the "certified safe" roster. listed as the 444CP 6.5" raging bull in 44 mag.

I liked the looks of the 444 blued model until I found out you can't get a new one. I was so pissed that I bought a socom 16 instead since the state hasn't crapped on rifles sans pistol grips yet.

4" Is iffy. It doesn't specify on the DOJ site, but a gun of the same model and make with a longer barrel, would that be CA Approved or is that a no no?

6" is ok in either .44 or .357.

I'd get the raging bull only...I'm not even sure if taurus makes them anymore, but the dual lockup points and heavier construction give me a better feeling than the tracker line...as much as you hear about them peening themselves out of time and stuff.

I did shoot one or two a friend has..felt as good as a smith. I also happen to know of a taurus 454 casull raging bull on consignment for way too much money at the local high priced gun shop.

I kind of got my mind on a smith and wesson model 29, but I like the 444B8 rb..

Hmm, well leanin towards that 444SS6 than. The standard 66 6" looks eh to me. I will look into some smiths as well just for the hey of it but they tend to be nearly twice as much.

I bought a 4" 627 a few years back for 360 out the door. Damn fine gun. It is my HD gun.

I'm not a revolver guy, but my vote goes to the 66SS6. I don't like the looks of the vented barrel or of the porting on the others.

I pyurchased a 44 mag. Looks like the first pic you have except its a 44 mag not a 357. I love the way it shoots. Feels comfortable in my hand but its a tad heavy. My wife would never be able to shoot it. I only got it cause I always wanted one. I only shot mabey 40 rounds through it. THe ammo is fairly expensive for it. The cheapest I found was 16$ a box. I only shot Winchester ammo thourgh it from walmart. other than that it jsut sits in a safe. Its got a cool factor to it but other than that its a pretty worth less gun for home defense IMO. Bullet will probably go through the bad guy then the wall and then through my next door neighbor so it wouldnt be my first choice for home defense. it would be my first choice to scare the s**t out of someone though. I cant remember exactly what I paid for it but 540 sounds right. That included tax and state fees. I think the gun was on sale for 480 or something like that. I was gonna sell it to my neighbor but I declined because he didnt want to register it in his name

I would think a hollow point would stay in the body if you hit it center mass.

I'm no expert on ballistics but I do know the .44 mag is one hell of a stopping round. I would save the family first, and worry about collateral damage later. I wouldn't sell your gun short if I were you... It's far from worthless.

There's something that you don't see often. "Thank you IRS" translated to "Thanks for keeping my money all year and then giving it back to me with no interest".

Buy a 357. 44's sit in the safe all the time as it was mentioned earlier. I have a Super Blackhawk that hasn't been shot since 1997.
