    One or the other..

Thinking of which handgun to get next, I currently have a Sig P226 9mm, looking to step up to a .45. My pick is between a P220 or a Kimber Custom TLE/RL II. I chose these two because they are in my price range (about $1k) and they are both respectable manufacturers. So, what would you choose?

EDIT: Forgot to say, I don't like to buy used guns, so new guns either from a PPT or off the shelf.

I'd pick the Dan Wesson Pointman 7. It is in the same price range and one that I'm considering. You might want to contact Legesat as he recently bought one and loves it.

I voted Sig, but I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Yeah I like the P220 because I would have the pair, but something different would be cool too.

I actually picked out the Kimber because you suggested it to another member here a couple days ago and I liked it. I like the Pointman 7 as well, what process do Dan Wesson 1911's go through? Like Kimber is MIM.

I like the sig better. Between those two I've never had a malfunction in the 220. The kimber I've has 5 or so ftf or fte in roughly 800 rounds.

I personally would pick the P220, but you have to prefer one over the other. Which one do you see yourself buying? Those are both very different guns with very different uses.

                OK... here's my reasoning...
I'm a 1911 guy and have been since I was 7... I remember being 9 or so and sitting in front of the tv tearing the 1911 gubmint model down and putting it back together again with my eyes closed...weird...ok but effective training...

but not everyone is familiar with the system...and I'm a "a handgun is a really nice thing to have for self defense in order to fight your way to a rifle" kinda guy.. and I carry all the time on/off duty and have since it was legal to do so...an the 1911 was my 1st autoloader handgun I acquired...

but not everyone is as familiar with the system... since you are familiar with the sig system, I would choose the sig... it is a very accurate outa the box goes bang everytime system...I have seen two that had trouble functioning over the years and in both cases it seemed the gun was too tight and needed a lighter recoil spring... Sig fixed 'em up...

The kimber is a good gun, if you like the feel of the flat mainspring housing 1911, then you can't go wrong with a kimberesque type of gun... the kimber is pretty much good to go out of the box as soon as you get rid of the stupid guide rod.....and I find it has most of the too sharp corners smoothed out...

I have a coupla springers.. they are nice guns but have too many sharp edges for a carry gun...and as chance would have it... the springfield XD 5 in gun I have will out shoot the 5 in 1911 loaded model...and has less sharp edges...and of course I threw away the guide rods and put the type in it that JMB would recognize...but I digress...

I think you need to take some training with a competant 1911 instructor if you are going to buy a 1911 and use it for self defense... but that's a good idea whichever gun you choose...so buy the gun and then book a class with Clint at Thunder Ranch...

of the one's you have listed, i voted for the Sig 220 because you are already familiar with the system, trigger practice is transferable between the two and you can get a nice set of Hogue aluminum or G-10 grips for it to ive you a more 1911 feel.

if you want to go to a 1911, the Dan Wesson Pointman (or CBOB)leads the pack at that price point, followed by Springfield Armoury

                    + 1 for a 1911 springer.
