    can you change a sa 1911 in 9mm over to a .45 cal by just changing the barrel and recoil spring or do you need a new slide ??

    You need a new slide and a new (frame mounted) ejector.

      In most cases, the feed ramp is also usually machine shallower on a 9mm. You will most likely need to machine it to .45 dimensions. It not worth it. You are better off buying a .45 instead. In most cases the .45 1911 is less expensive than the lower volume 9mm. Maybe you can find someone to trade with in the marketplace.
