    LEO handguns, thread for research..

I was curious to see what California Law Enforcement is issued or allowed to carry nowadays, mainly for curiosity purposes.

    Ones I know of:
Sacramento PD & Sheriff carry Sig P226s in .40 or 9mm (I think .40 is the standard but I am not too sure)
Citrus Heights PD carries a P226 in .40
Twin Rivers PD carries a P226, I believe in .40
Roseville PD is carrying some kind of full size glock, I am thinking a 22.
    CHP Carries a S&W 4006 TSW in .40
Placer County carries some kind of Glock, but I have seen berettas as well.
I believe San Luis Obispo PD is issued a H&K USP .45
    SFPD carries a P226 in .40

Other then that I am pretty much on a blank, so whatever you can add to the thread would be great, I am mainly curious what ABC, special agents for DOJ, CDCR field units, fish & game, and state park rangers are carrying too, but please post up your local agency if you know any any others you know. Thanks for your help..

Brentwood (N. CA) carries Glocks. 21s I believe. Maybe 22s.

Oakley can Choose from Sig, S&W or HK. Theyre contracted though, dont know if that makes a difference

ETA: I belive Antioch is issued Glock 22s -

There is a difference between standard issue an what they can carry. Like CHP the standard issue is the Smith & Wesson Model 4006 but they carry 1911s an glocks too. Ever watch bait car on trutv? those aren't all smiths they are pointing at the perps.

LAPD is issued glock 22 but can carry Smith or beretta, 9mm .40 or .45

LA sheriff 92 FS but can qualify with smith, kimber an very few others. Must have an external hammer an safty to qualify to carry an only on captains approval. I know guys that carry .45 but you run the risk of disciplinary action if in a shooting with out a prior ok to carry.

Sac PD issues the Sig 226 in 9mm only...that's for the street officers
Sac SO issues the Sig 226, 229 and 239 in a choice of 9mm or .40

Richmond PD can carry close to anything they can qual with. Most carry a 1911 variant, some Glocks in 40 or 45, seen a couple of Sigs, seen some Smith autos, and one old timer carries a Smith wheel gun.
San Pablo PD carries Glocks in 40 or 45.
CCCSO carries Glocks and Sigs from what I have seen.

Modesto PD just sold off their Sig 226 and 228...they are over at LC Action for $399...and replaced them with Glocks

Isleton PD had the USP .45
CDC still uses the S&W M-15

Well according to my recruiting packet from the San Diego Sheriffs. You can use any caliber as long you have 3 mags for it Or they provide a Glock 22 for you.

Kern County Sheriff, Bakersfield PD, Kern Co. Probation (130 +/- officers), District Attorney's office and most of the outlying small towns all issue the Glock 22/23/27 with varying ammo requirements.

Marin County issues the Glock 22, a few deputies still carry other "grandfathered" pistols.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Every Nevada Highway Patrol officer I have encountered lately has been carrying a Glock 22 while on patrol duty. My understanding is that they can carry whatever they like when they are working an investigation, but the various .40 Glocks are preferred.

Folsom PD- Sig P226 (P229 possibly)
                          Fish & Game- G22
CDCR- .38, G22's, some Beretta 92F's used for tactical teams
El Dorado Co- I have seen both Glocks and Sigs
Parole Agents- can qualify with a variety of weapons

Interesting comment about the CHP. I had no idea they carried anything other than the 4006.

sorry, but you are incorrect. CHP can only use the smith and wesson that is issued.

san bernardino pd issues 9mm or 45 glock whichever the deputy prefers
                            downey pd issues neretta 92
long beach pd issues para 40's

San Bernardino PD Has Glock's and HK's Glocks I do believe are only .45's but the HK's are 9, .40, and .45
at least thats what they told me when I asked,

                              San Bernardino Sheriffs carry G-21's
