Trustworthy HK Gunsmith?

Hey guys,

Who would you trust in Socal to install sights for an HK. It's a simple process I'm sure, but I hear so many horror stories of "gunsmiths" marring either the sights or the slide.

I just want to make sure someone I go to knows what he's doing. Also, what's the going rate to install sights for a USP?

I don't think that you would need an HK armorer to install night sights on a USP. I'm sure that any competent armorer or smith would be able to install new sights on your sidearm.

In fact if you had the tools, I'm sure that you could do it yourself.

The price of tritium installation varies with the configuration and how much milling has to be done.

So, if you want a 3 dot system it is $67.00 total. A bar dot system would be $57.00. The $42.00 price is a 3 dot system where milling wasn't charged. The gunsmith, at times, doesn't charge for milling if he happens to be drilling a bunch of our sights. That is because the machine is already set up and the proper drill bit is in use. Ergo, no milling charge. The milling charge is pretty much the same as a mill set up charge.

What sights did you plan on installing. I'm no gunsmith, but I've installed the sights on my Glock 19 and 17, CZ 75b, CZ P-01, CZ SP-01, HK P7M8, and my Sig 226. I also plan on installing new sights on my XD45 Tactical (yes, you heard right! ) when I pick it up.

I usually wrap the slide in an old leather belt, then put it in my vise. Then I use brass and aluminum punches on the sights themselves. Cold blue will usually take care of any marks left by the punches.

I'm located in the San Gabriel area, and the going rate for my expertise is....oh, for you, $250.00.
