Recoil spring plug tool? 1911 full length rod

I put a Sprinco recoil system in my Delta and it is a ***** to depress the recoil spring plug because it has a hole right through the middle for the full length rod. Do any of you know of a tool to use to compress full length rod spring plugs?

    Thanks

I have the Cylinder & Slide 1911 wrench, it makes bushing removal easier than you would imagine.

It is not that I am having difficulty removing the bushing it is the reinstalling the plug that gives me problems.

Use an empty magazine, just be careful it doesn't slip.

ETA: A bushing wrench usually has enough material to push down the plug as you turn the bushing, especially the one linked above by GB0. That protruding area on the bottom right of the picture serves to push down on the plug as you turn your bushing.

I push the plug in with my thumb while I turn the bushing just enough to catch the lip of the plug. I then use the wrench to finish turning the bushing. If you live in the southland I saw cheap plastic bushing wrench at Turner's San Bernardino. They were under $5. Maybe they have them in the other stores. Mark

Depressing the bushing with your thumb is very difficult because there is no solid top. It has a hole where the guide rod passes through it. So instead of having a solid checkered top the raised portion is hollow with a rather sharp edge. The bushing wrench would help at the very last step however it is the depressing of the plug to the point where you could get a bushing wrench on it which is damn near impossible without butchering you thumb. I wish I had a picture to put up.

You depress the bushing and the plug with the bushing wrench then turn. When you use a bushing wrench you don't need to push in the plug with your finger while trying to turn the bushing, you just push down the plug with the side of the bushing wrench, at which point the wrench is able to turn the bushing all the while keeping the plug down. If you don't want to buy a wrench, use the side of an empty magazine to depress the plug, then turn the bushing by hand.

Well one of the obvious problems with this plug is that it is at least 1/3 shorter than the original therefore to get it to the point where it enters the frame it is under a great deal more compression than the stock plug would be. This combined with the sharp edge makes the procedure unnecessarily difficult. If the plug was stock length the wrench may very well do the trick but as it is it is probably almost impossible to control the plug and engage the wrench. It is just a matter of time before this part gets launched into the stratosphere.

Here's what I do, push plug in just far enough that there's no wiggle. Then take a magazine and use the base to push it the rest of the plug in. Rotate bushing. Helps if your mag has a rubber bottom.

Pressing down on the cap without tearing up your thumb, is what the lobe on the wrench used for; use your other hand that is free, to steady the spring cap underneath the lobe on the wrench as you guide the cap into the frame, press down and twist with the wrench hand. The wrench is made of solid steel and will not flex or twist, making it real easy to depress the cap into the frame and twist the bushing in to place.

I am also using an FLGR with a tight bushing, this wrench solved the problem I was having.
