need HELP with an S&W 686

i was wondering if anyone was knowledgeable with the S&W 686.

i recently went shooting with my pops 686 when it jammed. we took it appart and looked like it had something to do with a rebound spring popping out of place. we tried piecing it back together according to the diagram but had no luck.

so i was wondering if anyone local(east bay/bay area) was knowledgeable enough to take a look and try fixing it or point me in the right direction to get it fixed.

There is a stud that hold the rebound spring in place. On top of that there is the side plate. I don't see how it could possibly move. Are you sure the stud has not broken? it does happen and would involve sending it back to S&W to get it fixed.
