Family transfer question

I'm antsy to turn 21. I have 4 months to go. So I have a question. Can my brother transfer a handgun to me? He is 25 so he can buy one. But is that the same as if a dad transferred a gun to his son?

nope. Intrafamily transfer is grandparent, parent, child, grandchild only. Straight up/down the family tree. No sideways or diagonal transfers.

For your brother to legally transfer you a handgun in CA, he would need to PPT it through a dealer. But since you are under 21, the dealer can't transfer the handgun to you at the end of your 10-day wait.

Where's your Dad? Depending on his location you may have an easier route. If your Father isn't anti-gun.

I'm not aware of anywhere where it says you have to wait for the confirmation letter before you can transfer it on.

Well my dad is a ways away, don't see him often. And my mother is pretty anti. I guess I could buy an AR, and then get my handgun when I'm 21. Waiting is no fun though.

Just wait dude. I been waiting for a while now as well. I get to do the paper work on mine on the 18th. My FFL was kind enough to order my Glock 22 and hold it till my birthday since it was the last one he could get (Gen 3 not RTF).

My best advice is to not think about it. Thinking about it will make the time go by way slow. Keep busy, don't look at anything for it. I kept thinking about it, looking at stuff for it. Then looked at the clock and only a few minuets went by, but it felt like over an hour went by.

At the end it will be worth the wait.

No, you cannot purchase a handgun till you are 21, but a Parent can give you a handgun as long as your over 18 and have an HSC card.

12078(c)(2) Subdivision (d) of Section 12072 shall not apply to the infrequent transfer of a handgun by gift, bequest, intestate succession, or other means by one individual to another if both individuals are members of the same immediate family and all of the following conditions are met:
(A) The person to whom the firearm is transferred shall, within 30 days of taking possession of the firearm, forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the Department of Justice, a report that includes information concerning the individual taking possession of the firearm, how title was obtained and from whom, and a description of the firearm in question. The report forms that individuals complete pursuant to this paragraph shall be provided to them by the Department of Justice.
(B) The person taking title to the firearm shall first obtain a basic firearms safety certificate. If taking possession on or after January 1, 2003, the person taking title to the firearm shall first obtain a handgun safety certificate.
(C) The person receiving the firearm is 18 years of age or older.
