    high velocity .22lr????

bought a Phoenix Arms HP22 a while back...love it but should have paid the extra $25 to get the whole kit...jack***** at the gun show didn't mention it came with more than a case..anyways, the federal and western ammo i'm using right now dont always seem to rack the slide far enough to eject. doesn't happen TOO much, but enough that I'm posting this thread. i'm thinking that higher velocity ammo might help but i'm having trouble finding .22lr with more than 1250fps muzzle velocity. any suggestions? anyone else own the same gun and have the same problem?

Don't know anything about your gun, but Aguila makes 2 different 22LR that's HV - the Super Maximum is a 30gr 1750fps round, the Interceptor is a 40gr 1470fps round. You can find both on cabelas.com.

Get some snap caps and cycle it by hand. Just to make sure it isn't the pistol itself that is causing the problem. How long is the barrel? I don't know if a short barrel will generate an advertised high velocity. But once you rule out the pistol try many different types of ammo and stick to the one that works best.

I would try a 100 rounds of CCI mini-mag solid point bullets. These are the high velocity type. There are also hyper-velocity bullets like the Stinger, SuperMaximum from Aguila, Yellow Jacket. Keep in mind that CCI also sells standard and subsonic 22 rounds as well in the plastic slide top boxes, make sure to get the high velocity stuff.

Many new 22 pistols and conversion units need a 500 round break in before they run reliably. I would try some high velocity ammunition before dismantling the pistol parts. I good cleaning of the pistols extractor edge may help but I would hold off on taking the extractor out.

Many of the bulk and cheaper bullets have so much variation between shots that one bullet comes out subsonic, the next may be high velocity, the next normal velocity, etc. CCI mini mags are not magical, but they are consistent and actually high velocity. Once I broke in by Browning BuckMark with the high velocity ammo, it only gets fed the cheap bulk stuff for plinking now.

Some of the super HV 22LR ammunition, like the CCI Stingers, have too long an overall case length for certain chambers. You might want to check it out before you buy a crate of the ammo in question.

CCI Mini mags. After running it for a while, other ammo should start to work better. Make sure you keep it cleaned and lubed real well for a while too.

Try using a recoil spring that is not as heavy

These have a history of the frame cracking when using hyper vel ammo. Stick with the mini mags and it should work its best.

interesting...I'll keep that in mind. Not sure how many rounds went through this thing before I bought it, all i know is it was used. I'm guessing not used very much because it came with all the parts and accessories still in original packaging and the gun showed no wear to my eyes. I'm not going to be replacing any parts to try and fix it, I just wanted to know if there was any good HV .22lr out there (besides CCI mini mags....my bad, should have specified). the western and federal ammo feed, shoot and eject fine 99% of the time in my Mossberg 702 rifle, and I've cleaned, lubed and worked the slide by hand to load and eject ammo with no problems on this pistol...which led me to believe it's the ammo. I'll pick up a pack of CCI's and give them a try. thanks all!
