    .50 GI Questions

Has anyone shot a .50 GI?

    What's the recoil like?

    How much is the ammo?

    How do the rounds perform?

Why bother with proprietary ammo? What, ten doesn't cut it anymore?

      I'm compensating..

I was just wondering... It sounds like it may be fun to play around with.

I'm all for oddball calibers (my only 10mm is a revolver, my favorite 45 ACP is a Smith 25 & I like the 41 Magnum over the 44) but the 50 GI left me a bit unimpressed in the power category. From what I read it shoots a 300 grain bullet about 700 fps & a 275 grain about 800 fps. That doesn't seem like a great improvement over the 45 ACP.

I don't mind losing a few ACP cases, but going to the range with 100 50 GI cases and leaving with 90 or so would take some of the fun out of my day too.

          I'd go .44mag or 10mm.

Big bullet with no power gain over a .45 - still has a lot of cool factor though.
