    Is this possible?

    Is this possible?
    • CA Non-Approved/Off List handgun purchased in AZ by an older male(A friend of mine).
    • He does family transfer of said handgun to daughter (he has no sons) who lives here in CA near me.
    • His daughter then sells the handgun to me via private party going through FFL dealer here in CA?
    • I finally get the gun I want, not what CA will allow me to have.

    Follow up questions...
    • Is there a minimum amount of time that must pass for the father owning the gun before transferring to daughter?
    • Is there a minimum amount of time his daughter must own the gun here in CA before she can sell it to me?

The path of the firearm is legal. There may exist some issues with transferring to the daughter with the intent to resell the firearm (dealing without a license if for profit, or possibly a straw purchase) but at least the path itself is legit.

wont we have to declare residency in CA before the gun can be brought over? Or she can own it but only outside of CA?

The transfer from father ot daughter is exempt from the roster. Due to federal law, the transfer must still got hrough an FFL, but the DROS is run as an exempt transfer.

Some FFLs may not understand the nuances with the transfer and exemptions, check with them first.

Of course, large capacity magazines must stay out of California.

Just what leelaw said. Here's another thread that you can read.
